I'm a bit baffled by the increasing fashion of unfluted cylinders on DA revolvers. You're just adding rotating mass to the DA trigger pull.

In SA, I don't care, the added mass isn't significant. In DA, every little bit adds to the trigger pull. |

It's where I got these, $20-25 each https://i.imgur.com/Vd1JBRC.jpg View Quote I've tried several sets of Altamonts over the years and thought my examples were pretty crappy. Those look pretty nice though, especially that set on the right, well worth what you paid. |

There is a LOT of pressure in that cylinder [up to 65,000 PSI], far more then in many rifle chambers. Hell, it's more then many proof loads for rifles. |

The ways you make a cylinder stronger are: - Increasing the OD, making the thin spot of the chamber wall thicker. - Making the cylinder latch cut and scallop a little shallower, if it is over the thin spot of the chamber (common on 6 shot guns) - Making it a 5 shot gun. You'll notice that the .454's tend to have 5 shot cylinders. That moves the cylinder latch cut and scallop away from the thin spot of the chamber (see below). That does more to make a cylinder stronger than anything else. Attached File |
