You gotta remember that the average age of GD is like 72.  Most of these dudes gotta turn their hearing aids up so they can listen to their hank Sr records.

I like a fair bit of Whiskey Myers's music.

I like his voice and a few of his songs. He isn't one I listen to a lot, though. It's more 'traditional' country music, which is the point.

I have to disagree, a country boy can survive is the anthem of suburban men that use their F-150 as the family sedan. It is definitely not country music.

Good names in there.

There's actually quite a bit of good new country music but you have to seek it out. Unfortunately even more of it is almost good but suffers from "trying too hard to sound country" which just makes it sound exaggerated and fake.

Nailed it.  I watched enough of the CMA awards last week to see Luke Combs get an award for singing it exactly like Tracy.  My wife has heard both and can't tell who is singing.

Tracy Chapman also got a CMA award for writing it.

FWIW: I bought Tracy's CD the first time I heard Fast Car.

I made a claim and provided several examples. Y'all didn't even have to look anything up - just click. OP had 6 songs in it. A half dozen people posted in less time than it would take to listen to half of one song. Many of the others OBVIOUSLY didn't listen to any examples before commenting. Do any of these tards really think Trampled by Turtles sounds like rap or that Turnpike Troubadours sounds like pop? Really? Of course not - y'all just wanna fuckin' yell at clouds.

That's the real problem with this argument.  There is great country music being made, but it's now called Americana.  You'll see all almost all the artists mentioned here at the Americana Music Awards, but won't ever see them at the CMAs, and you won't hear it on FM radio.  Sturgill Simpson won a country music Grammy a few years ago, and put it in his guitar case on the ground while busking in front of the building during the CMAs to which he wasn't even invited.

Maybe now.

When it debuted it was a hit with all the good 'ole boys in Dixie County,  Fl., where I grew up.

They were about as country as could be.

YMMV.

Those that judge music by the political leanings of the singers could never like him.  I think he's the best songwriter alive, and some of it would absolutely be great "country" songs.

I agree with those, and they all come up on my gadget regularly. Try using Pandora or Spotify and choosing one of their channels; that's how I found several new ones.

Same. Most of the music I actually enjoy these days is acoustic and has no electronics at all used in the production. I joke that I'm the middle-aged hipster who listens to bands you've never heard of and don't use any electricity.

Well country and rap tend to cover a lot of the same lyrical ground.

Getting stoned and drunk.
Getting laid.
Getting arrested and doing time.
Shooting people.

Common topics I've noticed from both genre.
