The big exception in WW2 was the Krauts 8mm Kurz (short) in their STG-44 Sturmgewehr (Hitler’s alleged term for the rifle) which is considered the “father” of the modern select-fire “assault rifle” which used an intermediate shorter cartridge, more controllable on full auto, with a lighter cartridge so more rounds could be carried. Actually, the .351 Self Loading Rifle was a similar concept, pre-WW1. Post-WW2, the US Army study re: small arms combat showed most troops didn’t shoot past 300 meters, and the SCHV aka, “Intermediate” concept was “born,” or maybe discussed by the US is a better way. It was part of Project AGILE in Vietnam. There are no parameters re: full battle rifle, vs assault rifle. Yes, .308/7.62 NATO is considered a “battle rifle round,” as noted. |

Seems with some tweaking most made them run but if this dude bought one and didn't really wring in out, that might have cause some of his (reported) issues with the rifle. I'm not a Ruger basher, off the top of my head I have 5 or so in the safe right now. |
