I think these guys might know a thing or two, considering the story is on the US Army's 1st Infantry Division official website. Plus the Iraqi's are rank conscious, they are not going to listen to some ODA CPT or MSG to tell them how to I run brigade and division sized operations. Plus add in the fact that Army divisions are the smallest element that can form a JTF HQ. That's what you need to control all the enablers that we're supplying them. |

They are also where we have intelligence HQ's and the most Western/US citizens. Erbil, for example, has several universities with Western/American faculty members. Their semester restarts in October. That would certainly be a prime target. I imagine the prime purpose of the soldiers will be providing security for interests like these as to prevent a large-scale hostage situation.
