This is the first game release I've been excited for in a long time.
The ship and outpost customization looks awesome. |

According to the required specs, my laptop can supposedly run it, but I dunno if I should even try or wait a bit for a new rig. My current ASUS ROG laptop from 2020:
i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz RTX 2060 16 GB |

Quoted: Upgraded from 2080 to 3080ti last year and upgraded MoBo and processor from i5 9600K to i7 13900k (This is not a CPU, its a furnace that can compute). Been using it to greatly enhance my performance in Star Citizen. My body is ready for Sept 1st now. Pretty damn hyped for this. Hope it lives up. View Quote That's a great setup and should run Starfield at ultra settings. Attached File |

My system: Intel i5-12600k (OC'd 5GHz P-core / 4GHz E-core @ 1.269v) 32Gb DDR4 3600 CL18 (XMP enabled) AMD 6700 XT (OC'd 2.6GHz via AMD auto-overclock) 330+ mHz download, 10+ mHz upload internet 1.2 Tb space available on my Samsung 980 Pro SSD NVME The only issue I can see with my system is the graphics card being a 6700 XT 12Gb VRAM model versus the 16Gb VRAM 6800 XT recommended card. |

I was going to build an entirely new system this year, but I'm finding the budget is eluding me as our business is down thanks to Bidenomics.
My current system is a 9900K with 32gb and an Asus 2080Ti. So far it has allowed me to play most games in 4K with high-ish settings without many issues. I'm debating just getting a new video card like a 4080 that will transfer to the new build, but I'm wondering how much improvement I'll see on my older system that is still PCIE 3.0... |

View Quote I just built mine 3 weeks ago, and I'm already planning to swap to a 13900k Processor and 7900 XTX GPU by next year. If my system runs Starfield in ultra, I'll stick with my current GPU and swap out the 12600k for a 13900k. If not, I'll plan for both upgrades. I'm currently air cooled, so a water cooler is in the very near future. UE5 benchmark videos I've been watching show the GPU is less important than the processor, relatively speaking, as it's designed for upscaling via DLSS or FSR. |

I picked up the $35 upgrade.
Unfortunately I also have to move on Sept 1 so my game playing time will suffer badly On the plus side the wife is going to be gone for a couple weeks in mid Sept so I can do a binge like it's 1999 again |

Failed To Load Title Supposedly a review from a leaked copy. No spoilers, it's pretty funny. |

Traits and Backgrounds
Click To View Spoiler Traits Alien DNA You volunteered for a controversial experiment that combines alien and human DNA. As a result, you start with increased health and oxygen, but healing and food items aren't as effective. Dream Home You own a luxurious, customizable house on a peaceful planet! Unfortunately it comes with a 125,000 credit mortgage with GalBank that has to be paid weekly. Empath You are deeply connected to the feelings of others. Performing actions your companion likes will result in a temporary increase in combat effectiveness. But, performing actions they don't like will have the precise opposite effect. Extrovert You're a people person. Exerting yourself uses less oxygen when adventuring with human companions, but more when adventuring alone. (Incompatible with Introvert) Freestar Collective Settler You gain access to special Freestar Collective dialogue options, and better rewards from some missions given by the faction. But, crime bounty towards other factions is greatly increased. (Incompatible with Neon Street Rat, United Colonies Native) Hero Worshipped You've earned the attention of an annoying "Adoring Fan" who will show up randomly and jabber at you incessantly. On the plus side, he'll join your ship's crew and give you gifts... Introvert You really need your alone time. Exerting yourself uses less oxygen when adventuring alone, but more when adventuring with other human companions. (Incompatible with Extrovert) Kid Stuff Your parents are alive and well, and you can visit them at their home. But you will automatically send 2% of your credits home to them every week. Neon Street Rat You grew up on the mean streets of Neon. You gain access to special dialogue options, and better rewards from some missions on Neon. Crime bounty by other factions is greatly increased. (Incompatible with Freestar Collective Settler and United COlonies Native) Raised Enlightened You grew up as a member of the Enlightened. You gain access to a special chest full of items in the House of the Enlightened in New Atlantis, but lose access to the Sanctum Universum chest. (Incompatible with Raised Universal and Serpent's Embrace) Raised Universal You grew up as a member of the Sanctum Universum. You gain access to a special chest full of items in the Sanctum Universum in New Atlantis, but lose access to the House of the Enlightened chest. (Incompatible with Raised Enlightened and Serpent's Embrace) Serpent's Embrace You grew up worshiping the Great Serpent. Grav jumping provides a temporary boost to health and oxygen, but health and oxygen are lowered if you don't continue jumping regularly - like an addiction. (Incompatible with Raised Enlightened and Raised Universal) Spaced Your body has become acclimated to space. Health and oxygen are increased when in space, but decreased when on the surface. (Incompatible with Terra Firma) Taskmaster Occasionally, if you have crew trained in a certain ship system, that system will automatically repair itself to full health whenever it is damaged below 50%. However, all crew cost twice as much to hire. Terra Firma You've never acclimated to space. Health and oxygen are increased when on the surface, but decreased when you're in space. (Incompatible with Spaced) United Colonies Native You gain access to special United Colonies dialogue options, and better rewards from some missions given by the faction. However, crime bounty by other factions is greatly increased. (Incompatible with Freestar Collective Settler and Neon Street Rat) Wanted Someone put a price on your head, and word has spread. Occasionally, armed mercenaries will show up and try to kill you, but being cornered gives you an edge - when your health is low, you do extra damage. Apparently the jerks that are handling of the Constellation editions are holding them back and shipping them according to the region you live in so that they arrive on September 1st instead of just shipping them now to be sure players receive them in time. My keyboard deskmat will be here Monday though and my Xbox 1 controller arrived today. I'll just be using it for ship combat though.

I'm wondering how some of those will be useful. Like the parents one.

I picked up the game. Then I find out my video card is the bare minimum to run it.
So what card would you all recommend to replace it with under $600? Currently have a Nividia Geforce GTX 1070Ti 8GB. Motherboard is an ASUS ROG Strix B350F 32GB RAM AMD Ryzen 7 2700x 8 core 3.7GHZ Power supply may be a tad small for a new card too. EVGA SuperNova 750W Gold. |
|
At that price point, one of the higher end Radeon cards would probably be best. I think AMD is coming out with a new model soon or just did?
Edit: https://www.amd.com/en/products/graphics/amd-radeon-rx-7800-xt That's your best bang for your buck for sure. Otherwise the RTX 4700 Ti is going to be the best mid range card from Nvidia, but they appear to still be in the $800 range. That's my recommendation if you want an Nvidia card and can't justify an RTX 4080. Going down from there you would go to the RTX 4070 or RTX 4060 Ti 16GB. A used RTX 3080 would be a good option too. |

I guarantee you whatever traits or background I pick, I will play the game for a few hours then restart and change everything once I get a better feel for the mechanics.
I've done that since Morrowind... start blind, roll with it, figure out some or all of my choices suck, then restart and respec. |
