The little brother TE has signed. I’ve heard that Max wants to be a coach, so maybe that is part of the deal long term.

I don’t mind having Max. As this year showed, it’s ok to have a touch more depth at QB. Weigman  can redshirt and King/Johnson can fight for the starting position…then if Johnson looses, he would be a solid back up that can be a grad assistant coach once he finishes college

According to 247 sports Jake Johnson has committed (as of this AM) but not signed.

OU can get the money if they want, but with the stuff that's happened over the last two weeks, it behooves us to stay in the B12 a bit longer

I take it to mean the #1 recruit this year is a corner, and he's going to play for a NFL hall of fame corner turned head coach.  He's looking for 1:1 coaching from *the best* person alive coaching his position.

Probably also some NIL considerations there as Deon can swing some influence that direction for the kid.

ETA:  And for Deon, this shows he can pull the highest level of talent.  You know for sure his agent is using this *right now* in rebuilding Deon's resume to highlight his recruiting capabilities.

Whenever Deon leaves to go to a big name school, this kid can transfer portal and follow Deon.

Our #2 QB (who started all year) is leaving.  So we have Hanes King (2021 starter that was injured all year), and a walk on.  We have Conner Weigman coming in as a 5*, but Jimbo plays the long game with QB development so I could see him selling Weigman on a red-shirt year to help him develop and limit his on-field risk of injury by guaranteeing him a year to get up to SEC speed.

If that's the case, then we need a #2 QB, as our walk on won't cut it in the SEC for anything other than kneeling and handing it off, and even that can be problematic when you have 7 300lb+ DL guys bearing down on you when they know you're just running with no pass option.

I would rather be there sooner, but I woudl rather stay in the B12 two more years then go. Let BV do some Damage Control before the SEC move.

Already doing good, went from a #32 recruiting class to top ten in less than a week.

I wonder how the NIL deals are structed.

Are they tied to staying at the school?
Are they a lump sum or installment payments?
What is the length of the deal?

3 and 4 star guys, TTU's bread and butter when we don't suck.

#34/35 recruiting class .... was in the 60s and 70s with Kliff and Wells

2023 is looking like a top 25 recruiting class.  TXHSCA love McGuire as he's one of them.

Having a big (27) class helps.  We've (TTU) got no transfers out so far this year, and space for 2 more feb signees and some transfer players (likely OL to fill some gaps)

The top three are teams we play every year (bama, A&M, UGA.)  Yea us!

We are up to #12 but still only have one OL signee to go with the one we got last year.

Texas ALWAYS recruits well.  Add in the #1 transfer of all time just committed to Texas, and that sways a lot of potential recruits who want an opportunity to play with someone who could be the future Tom Brady or Peyton Manning.

They signed 31 recruits and the best OL class in the country. Before they announced their big NIL deal for offensive linemen, UT was struggling to get any OL commits. Money obviously talks.

To give this perspective most #1 overall recruits are non QB.

And there have only been 6 #1 overall recruits in history that were a perfect recruiting score. Out of those only two have been QB's.  So you only have one person in history you can compare this to:  Vince Young.

I think in 4 years, "shitters full" only got 3-4 five stars.

But in just two weeks, BN, without even having 75% of his staff yet, goes into IMG (THE home of 5 stars, and in our backyard) where UF was previously locked out; and pulls the #1 safety in the class.

Holy shit.

Then in his presser just now commented on how IMG is going to be their priority. Music to all UF fans ears.

Very, very good sign of things to come.

About 1 in 6 five star recruits go on to be first round picks. About half get to the NFL if I recall correctly. So it’s no guarantee, but the odds are pretty damn good.

That's one big reason Taggart was hired at FSU.  Willie was a coach in the area and had his pick of talent when at WKU.  They thought he could continue to pull from the local high schools and IMG.

That didn't happen.

I'm just a couple of minutes away from IMG and have done work there. Incredible talent at that place.  The students' whole  experience is tailored to play football and get a DI offer.

FYI:  Mahomes got great at scrambling and magic while the TTU OL tried to let him get mauled every snap.  2015 OL wasn't half bad mind ya with 2 NFL OL, NFL RB, NFL WR helped but 7-6 with a bowl loss to LSU after Mahomes got mauled every damned snap.  That was a star studded DL

Here's a shocker, A&M is still in the hunt for 2 more 5*'s, Alabama is competing for 1 of those against us.

#1, #2 and #3 are all so close it doesn't really do justice to distinguish between these classes.  But look at that gap between #3 and #4

Watch Mahomes TTU highlights.  He was 90% of a top offense nationally and the stats back it up.

He's been a stud in the NFL, and he's even better at the no look pass and everything else.

I don't mean to discount his work, HS, TTU, or chiefs work, he was a good student and the hardest working and playing guy I've seen since Zach Thomas and Wes Welker, plus physical talent as good as anyone.  Never got into shit and is beloved by everyone.  He does local commercials for Lubbock folks even now.
