View Quote My reply: have you ever stood in a place where the SS murdered people? I've stood against the wall where people who wore that skull with pride machine gunned innocent from all over Europe. The 9th Fort in Kaunas Lithuania. It makes an impression on you, seeing the pockmarked concrete walls. I tried to imagine what it would have been like, to be helpless, to have the last thing you see is a man in an SS uniform pull the trigger on an mg-42. It is a place of unspeakable evil, a place that you feel the evils of the past stabbing their knives into your very soul, a place where evil triumphed and freedom burned. To compare the confederate flag to the symbol of the SS is ludacris. To suggest that you are being some kind of culture warrior against the politically correct leftist crowd by using this symbol is equally absurd. It has nothing to do with being tough, or bad ass. THOUSANDS of AMERICAN servicemen gave their lives to defeat this kind of evil, and you are branding your company with a symbol they fought, bled, and died to rid the world of, to prevent it from taking more lives. Shame on you, you are as foolish as you are ignorant. Our honored dead, the men who gave everything to stop this evil at places like Bastogne, Malmady, and Normandy are rolling over in their graves as we speak. Your "point of view" is an insult to every american solider who ever laced up a boot from 1941-1945. Why not pick a rising sun, or a hammer and sickle? I will tell you why. The fact is, like it or not, symbols have meaning, and the totenkopf will be forever linked with murder of innocents, death, destruction and oppression. |

Slight thread drift.... I was a german language minor and I had visited Germany in the summer on 1989, before the Wall came down that fall. Obviously, all the nazi and SS stuff was completely avoided because I had no clue what a Totenkopf symbol was until 5 minutes ago. You may not have recognized the name, but if you know anything about the SS and the holocaust, you would recognized the death head skull. Now that you mention, I do remember seeing the skull symbols on uniforms from WWII pics, but I never put it together that the "Totenkopf" = SS . Yes, I feel like a tard. Feel free to commence with the 13'er comments. |

I'm not bothered by it, but I do think its a really dumb idea.SEI's rationale that they're exact copy of the SS totenkopf has nothing to do with the SS is totally pants on head retarded. Of course people are going to associate it with Nazis because its an exact fucking copy of the SS death head. In case SEI didn't the memo, Nazis are the baddies and the SS are a bunch of dicks and nobody should like them.

It might bother you, it might not. Even so, although I'm not in marketing I'm pretty sure one of their top ten suggestions is to never make your company look like literal Nazis, and i think most of us can agree this is a good idea.

Appears to be just a sticker. At least I hope. They'd be foolish to switch from the one they have now to this. As pedestrian as the current one is, this is light years more terrible. Good corporate branding should not look like 9th grader slapped some random typeface on top of a piece of clip art, sorry to say. Development of a logo, particularly one that a brand identifies itself with, should be rigorous process, usually highly expensive, and should be integrated into the company's aesthetic identity as a whole in all media fronts. This looks like it was made by an intern who can open MS Paint. check out the laser engraving on the brakes http://www.googlepixel.com/images/derpskullsmith.jpg Ummagawd. They could've done something, anything, and it could've been a better logo. They could've just used a Helvetica-type logo like every other goddamn company out there and it still would have been better than this. Shit, just make the logo of a vortex flash hider. That would even work. |

They're an M14 making company. The M14 is an American rifle.
I can't help but think that a logo with a single feather in it would be more appropriate. You know, after that one dude, what's his name? If you must do the skull & bones thing, why the heck not just do the Jolly Roger? |

Whats next, a joint product release with DAK? Oops, I mean US Palm? View Quote Funny you mention that...That kind of thing happens occasionally... It's one thing to steal a symbol from a defeated enemy. A Navy fighter squadron, VF-111, slapped a version of the rising sun on the tails of their aircraft starting in the 60s or 70s. Many people would undoubtedly recognize this from certain Japanese flags, and VF-111 traced it's history back to WW2. They took a symbol from an old enemy, cut it up, and put a section of it on their aircraft. Even more close to the subject of this thread, the USMC at one time stole some symbols from the DAK. I'm pretty sure that everybody here remembers the DAK palm tree and that many people around the world would recognize it as well. Well the USMC liked it so much that they slapped it on their tanks. But obviously they didn't make an EXACT FUCKING COPY of the original, they played with it and stuck their own symbol in there. You'd have to be a complete and total idiot to take a direct copy of a well known symbol of hate and criminal behavior, and smack it on your shit without modifying it at all. |
