Probably hard to do the job when the boss wants to destroy NATO. The President wants to destroy NATO by forcing all of the members to increase military spending to the point where they actually have a military. Once again you've pointed out that President Trump is a bad, bad, man and I'm almost sorry I didn't vote for Hillary Clinton like you did, keep it up however and you just might. |

These are the facts: 1) NATO couldn't fight its way out of a wet bag. 2) The American Century is over. 3) New powers arise in the world. 4) Adapt or perish. Toomas Ilves lived in a dreamworld, and the dream is now over. The current Estonian government needs to consider a realpolitikal approach to a world, in which America is just another country and not some all-powerful hegemon. Barack Obama, Donald Trump, or Bruce Springsteen aren't going to save Estonia from Russia. What now? That is the question for the policy-makers in Tallinna. View Quote |

True but I also don’t think the US could win a major war either. Americans are so used to minimal casualties that there would be too much public uproar from the left and right saying “Japan/ROK/whomever isn’t worth it”. Russia is best left to its own devices, whose harm makes the greater harm Russia could cause minimized. On one hand,I wish Russians could be as good of neighbors as everyone else but they don’t have that in them. Therefore,I would rather see all the detriments of a shitty Russia than the detriments of a successful Russia and for that I’m strangely happy with Putin vs a capable alternative. Nobody would stop them from taking the Baltics barring that tiny risk of there may be something other than nasty words at the UN.,like cutting off porn and hooker exports or something more meaningful than the sanctions over Ukraine or fucking around with the US. What would be hilarious would be all the GD experts who would furiously read Wikipedia and RT articles about how they were historically part of Russia until being made pawns of Wall Street Jews and the like. The Russian economy in farthest Siberia is the Chinese economy. A great many of the farms, forestry operations and remaining industries are Chinese owned. Russia invested nothing and China has stepped in.

On 16 July Vladimir Putin and his American peer are going to meet in Helsinki. Now it is quite possible that Estonians are going to get sold out that day. Don't panic, historically Americans do this to all of their "allies", it's inevitable when you deal with those people. Instead adapt a reactive and proactive contingency-policy that seeks closer co-operation with the Nordic countries, Germany, and Poland. When you do this, remember two key things: 1) Estonia and the Baltic Countries are not high-priority targets for Russia's aggressive foreign policy, Russia is tied up with its own systemic shittiness elsewhere, 2) You are not alone no matter what Vladimir Putin or the regime in Washington tell you. It will be alright if you continue economical and political integration with the neighbouring western countries. There might well be a Lavrov-Pompeo Pact, but this isn't 1939 anymore; the world has changed. There will be a future Europe with an independent Estonia in it. View Quote I don’t have any actual fear of a Russian invasion but know that Russian meddling is a part of life. This is probably something Americans should get used to again rather than so many still refusing to understand that it means far more than election tampering. |

While Europe has been conducting social experiments the US has been their shield, the status quo is changing and in the future more nations will have to be truly independent militarily to protect their people. The effort follows Trump’s expression of interest in removing the troops, made during a meeting earlier this year with White House and military aides, U.S. officials said. Trump was said to have been taken aback by the size of the U.S. presence, which includes about 35,000 active-duty troops, and complained that other countries were not contributing fairly to joint security or paying enough to NATO. Word of the assessment has alarmed European officials, who are scrambling to determine whether Trump actually intends to reposition U.S. forces or whether it is merely a negotiating tactic ahead of a NATO summit in Brussels, where Trump is again likely to criticize U.S. allies for what he deems insufficient defense spending. |
