You should have seen the turbo 2.0 l version that came within an eyelash of production. Faster than the Z28/Trans Am of the time, and faster than the contemporary Mustang GT too. Probe GT wheels/tires on Contour front hubs and brakes with V6 Tempo front discs/hubs on the rear of the car. Would have been a '95 model.

Avanti with a 2JZ swap.

Also saw a Volga that was made into a coupe and put on an E31 BMW 850is chassis.

I was going to buy one but didn't realize they wouldn't make them very long. Their prices went fucking insane in *very* short order. I think they only made around 2000 of them from '11-14. So ridiculously cool though.

I had a black one, sweet driving little car! Their biggest issue was that the seat tracks had play in them that could only be temporarily damped with grease. You'd get a rock forward/rock back-click on every shift.

Bought new in 2000.  23 years, 57,000 miles later and it’s still a blast to drive.

People see it now and assume it’s the battery operated version.

This is purely a nostalgia choice, because this was my first car- a 1992 Mazda MX-3. I've toyed with the idea of picking up another for several years. They're not common any more, but they're dirt cheap because nobody wants them.

Mine was the anemic 88hp 1.6L I4; if I get another I want the 1.8L V6 GS version.

If stupid rich, SuperPerformance  GT40 but instead of a 427 SB Ford have it running a 4 rotor turbo angry dorito.

Mic American icon with the sounds of a 787B.

Pretty happy with what I have as is.  66 Mustang with road racing inspired suspension/brakes and 380whp brings all the sensational bliss.

My friend near Atlanta had one. Even with a diff making "I'm gonna throw in the towel" noises, he sold it for what he had bought it for 3 years prior. He didn't drive it much (retired) but when he did he beat on it. I tried talking him into converting to the 9" IRS swaps people sell now. He balked at the cost and then proceeded to buy a Hellcat...

In 1972 I'd have bought a new Opel Manta.  The local dealer said they were not to be found but, in retrospect, I think he may have just blown me off as a broke dick 20-year-old tire kicker.

4 of us guys were at a junk yard and ended up buying a 1958 Cadillac Hearse for $50.00, $12.50 each. Motor was shot so we ended up taking the engine out of one of the guys fathers 1962 Cadillac while he was on vacation. We drove that thing everywhere, put a mattress in the back and ashtrays in the wood shelves. Registered it as a 1958 Cadillac black wagon. It was parked at the guy who had the 1962 Cadillac house and ended up getting junked, he said by mistake but we were never sure. He was pissed about the engine. This must have been the early or mid 70's.

I had that exact car up until about 5 years ago.  Same color even.

Honestly, it was probably the best vehicle I've ever owned.  Cheap late '90s interior and all that.  I've definitely driven a lot faster cars.  But as far as driving and handling and everything just feeling "right,"  I don't think I've ever driven anything better.

That's what made them so good for the time. It was a really solid chassis which made for a nice balanced sports sedan. It was really more of a successor to the 2nd gen Taurus SHO then the Yamaha V8/Auto SHO was in my opinion.
