Wayne Gretzky had a 10 or so year period where he dominated unlike anyone else in the game.

But my vote is Tiger. Tiger Woods changed the tour. It used to be a bunch on white frat boys who would drink all the time. Now they all work out, have trainers and chefs. He changed the money as well. The 150th guy on tour this year will probably break $1m in earnings. Before Tiger it was less than $100k. And it's not inflation. It was the Tiger effect.

Secretariat.

Our daughter did a class project on why he was so dominant.  Came up with some facinating stuff.

These are the two I thought of. In their times, they were so head and shoulders above that they changed their games.

I miss the days of Wayne, Mario, Bossy, Stevie, etc. Hockey has become too game planned with the intent to shut down offense. They need to expand the ice surface. Go to international size at least but will never happen because you'd have to renovate arenas. Ice is too small for today's game.

Really?  He was an all-star a whole 4 times, and won two championships.

It's funny how people in this thread are choosing their favorite athlete, rather than answering the original question.  Bill shouldn't even be listed the in the top 50 most dominant players in his sport, much less all sports.

Tiger dominated more in a 10 year stretch, 1998-2008, than Jack ever did. Jack did more but had a longer relivant career.

Because his era of Baseball was heavily ruled to favor pitching. The ball never got replaced during the game, and the pitcher dirtied it up so much, that it became nearly impossible to see it against the backdrop.

And for my own choice, I think Michael Phelps is the most dominant athlete ever.

Then comps. Optics. Fatbodies. The entire "Arms Race". All the way through to Production and Singlestack.

I used to live a few houses down from McGrath. My roomate was a pro rider (douchebag) and he wanted to teach me to ride. So he had me start on a mini-bike and zip up a down the block. McGrath was outside and we shot the shit for a bit. Super nice guy.
