Quoted: Sugar, corn, wheat, and soy make you fat and unhealthy. The American diet, especially of the poors is mostly composed of sugar, corn, wheat, and soy. View Quote A lot of truth in this. You bring the cost of a calorie down which makes it easily accessible, and then make it quite tasty so it’s highly desirable and it’s no wonder we have an obesity epidemic. We’ve been designed/evolved to pack on fat when opportunity presents itself to increase our odds of survival, and then we end up immersed in an environment of plenty that is without deprivation. What could possibly go wrong? So the only deprivation now is self-deprivation ... which also runs counter to our instinctive programming. So the only way to ignore the instinctive programming is to use intellect to overcome it. But it’s exponential growth. We’re social animals. So seeing others do the very thing (getting fatter) which we are predisposed to doing (to store fat) creates a feedback loop. The more people we see doing it makes it seem more and more OK which, when combined with the biological predisposition, lowers inhibitions against it. And the nature of eating is immediate gratification while the payoff for deprivation is delayed. So everything is stacking up against you. So is the willpower to withstand temptation and delay gratification something in abundance in most people or rare in most people? There you have it. More and more people getting fatter and fatter. The more we see it the more normal it is. The more normal it is, the less objectionable it is. The less objectionable it is, the less incentive there is to resist it. The less objectionable it is, the more easily it is to give in to instinct and pleasure. |

Quoted: Because throughout human history fat is not a natural state of the form. Hunter gathers burned calories You worked to survive Overeating, sugar and carbohydrates in general didn’t exist Fat is a relatively new condition View Quote Umm, storing fat is absolutely a natural state. Your body is designed to do that very thing. Look at where your body stores it. If your body is going to store fat and still allow mobility, where else could it store it? All those people that store large amounts of fat in their extremities became immobile and got eaten ... and thus unable to pass on their genes. Being perpetually fat is a relatively new condition. Being able to add fat is absolutely NOT a relatively new condition. In fact, we wouldn’t be around today as a species to be perpetually fat without our bodies having utilized that capability at various times in our species’ history to perpetuate the species. |

I'm 5'11". I got up to 198 for the last 6 months or so just because I got lazy and was eating like shit. Man, I felt like crap. A month ago I decided to just start eating better and get back to working out. Just 30 minutes on the treadmill does wonders. Back down to 180 where I belong. Feel much better. I'm not sure how overweight people do it. I kinda feel bad for them. Motivation needs to come from within and some people just can't do it. I think the hardest part for many is just getting started. The only person I personally know who died from covid was over 400#. She was 32.

Quoted: We’re biologically wired to be attracted to thinner, healthier people. Fat people are fat because they have no discipline or self control. It’s not hard to eat healthy and exercise, but it’s easier to eat like shit and not exercise. And I really hate the “I have a thyroid issue” excuse that usually comes from 300+ lb land whales. No, you have a portion control issue. Or, if you actually do have a thyroid issue, then you should know to make better food choices so as not to pack on weight. View Quote I think it’s less scientific than that. I see a lot of rational, scientific/evolutionary arguments for a lot of tendencies. But they come across as overthought. The op is a guy. As a guy I’m thinking about women regarding the topic. Thin women are better to look at and feel better against my body. They also feel weaker and more submissive in a position of dominance like sex. This all excites the physical senses and impresses how I look at other women of interest. Conversely guys who make good money feel safer and more secure. They also get there by having a spine. Bigger guys may feel better to women for the same reasons as above. They feel more dominant and powerful in situations of intimacy. We really go with our subjective needs when it comes down to it. If we didn’t we’d be a species of genius IQ super athletes because of biological rationality. At the end of the day our irrational urges take over at least sometimes. Hence the presence of hot dumb chicks and ugly geniuses. The need to feel pleasure over calculated selections is why we have trailer parks. |

Fat people are gross. I am not a fitness model but I am pretty average. Over the years as an adult my weight has fluctuated maybe forty pounds. At my heaviest (220) it felt uncomfortable to do anything physical. Bending over to tie my shoes and my gut was in the way. I would get winded and sweaty easily. Sex was less enjoyable as I could feel my fat in the way. At my current weight of 185 life is so much better and the biggest improvement for me was the sex. I honestly can’t imagine how people who are 100+ pounds overweight get through life much less fuck.
There is a point with weight where it just becomes more difficult to do anything besides sit on your ass. I don’t really negatively view anyone who is a few pounds overweight but when people are so fat you wonder how they wipe their ass I just shake my head and think how did you let yourself get that way. You have basically shoved so much food down your throat that you are unable to do normal day to day shit. That is a huge turn off. It is just a total lack of self respect. |

Quoted: Thin people are more attractive than heavier people. They have more opportunities in life. Fat people are viewed as unattractive, lazy, and slothful. They have less opportunities in life. Is it something hard-wired in people that makes them view thin people as attractive? Is food addictive? It is hard not to eat a whole bag or chips or candy when you open it. It is far better to not buy the food and have it around. Are fat people fat due to no willpower, laziness, disease, or something else? How can fat people get thin? More importantly: How can fat people get and REMAIN thin? View Quote It boils down to this: thin people are more attractive because they're healthier than fat (obese) people. Let's be real, most of what we Americans call fat is OBESE. Men and women are hardwired to look for healthy mates likely to bear healthy offspring and protect and provide for them. It's the same reason men are generally attracted to curvy women (not to be mistaken for the fat women calling themselves curvy). We are programmed to procreate and further the species. Healthy mates capable of making babies, protecting and providing for them fits that bill to a T. I would argue that athletic men and women are more attractive than thin ones. An athletic women with curves can stop traffic, the same probably goes for a muscular, ripped guy. The reason "we" tend to be overweight and many Americans are Obese is because we have become lazy, self-centered and gluttonous. For thousands of years people did manual labor for a living and if you didn't work you didn't eat, most of them ate what they produced or traded for food. They walked all day and labored intensely. Now people sit in front of glowing screens, they get their fatty, sugary, carbohydrate filled artificial creations out of microwaves or through their car window and they sit or lie down during the majority of the day. If anyone wants to get in shape they should quit eating sugars, simple carbs and starches, eat meat and vegetables and start exercising or working outside with their spare time. At 42 I was in the best shape in my life and was getting hit on by women half my age, not because I was mind-blowingly attractive but because most Americans are out of shape slobs with no drive and I was willing to eat right and pick up heavy things 5 days out of a week. It really boils down to making a decision and following through with it. There are people with medical conditions that cause them weight issues but 98% of it is diet and exercise (or the lack thereof). |

I always hear people say they don’t eat healthy because they don’t have the energy, time, or money.
They don’t have energy because they eat shitty food with heavily unbalanced diets. They don’t have time because they’re too busy staring at the TV or their phone. They think it’s expensive because they just want an excuse for their lack of self control to break their bad habits. I’ve always been a pretty stout guy with a little bit in the gut, but I just started taking my food intake seriously. The change in energy and recovery is night and day. Stop making excuses and you just might find you’ll enjoy life a bit more. |

Thin and fat are at the ends of the spectrum of what is attractive. I find thin women to be just as unattractive as fat ones. To me, thin says unhealthy, sickly. I'd rather play with a fat girl's boobs than a skinny one's little A or B cups...

Ideas of beauty change over the centuries.
A few hundred years ago chubby was in, because to have extra weight was evidence of wealth; you could afford to eat more than the bare minimum. Now more recently thin has been in because society has ready access to food, so it finds other ways to judge attractiveness. |

It took a while for me to catch on but forum member frayedknot would always use CICO (calories in versus calories out) as his argument. For the longest time, I thought that was too simplistic. But then it hit me: I reframed his position of CICO to this : “if you don’t eat it, you don’t have to burn it off.” I stopped eating Snickers, Paydays, and drinking cokes after my night shifts 3 or 4 times a week. Those 3 things together are like 1,200 calories. So there weeks I was ingesting an extra 4,800 calories. A pound of fat is supposedly 3,500 calories. I was 305 pounds in early December. I cut out the sweets and started doing the Atkins diet. I weighed 265 on Valentines Day. So 40 pounds lost in 10 weeks. I never worked out. My work would have me walking 7 plus miles a shift. |
