Go for the Arthur head screws instead!

Quoted: I stripped a torx on a Walther optic plate with just my fingers on the Allen wrench. I don’t know what head is best View Quote I’ve done the same thing, as have many many people. That is why they have since redesigned torx to torx plus, and then to torx paralobe, because the “perfect” bits like to strip like a motherfucker. |

Quoted: Quoted: Meh. I can get behind you if you want to bitch about slotted screws. Quality Phillips with the correct driver are fine. Can't say I've seen many Phillips in high-torque applications though They at least still have a purpose in Healthcare, restaurants, etc, in that you can clean the slot easier. I'm with op. It's time that we move past Phillips. |

Because if torx all the things, someone will figure out a way to fuck that up too.

Torx drive is not the end all answer. They break or strip in high torque applications all the time. The SO bits that fit really tight and cost a fortune are the best by far about getting a stubborn torx screw out, but even they don't work every time. At least with philips, you don't break a bit flush with the fastener and spend all day working to get it out when it won't drill and you can't weld something to the head to turn it out. Torx is fine for low torque, but they are often overtorqued. Also for trim or drywall, square drive is much more convenient.

They exist because of early automatic screwdrivers. It was easier to create a head that automatically disengaged (cams out) than creating one with an automatic clutch. The linked article did not mention it, but there was also a version of the x slotted screw that did not have the tapers that encourage the Phillips cam out.

After we solve this, can we do why needle valves still exist? They should be replaced with ball valves.

Hex and Posidrive really are fucking awesome. But Torx is best.

View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: And why do they keep using it for high torque applications? And why is square or torx drive special order and Phillips is stocked? Please provide your business model for replacing every Phillips head screw on Earth with a Torx bolt as well as the estimated cost of doing so. Thanks. Costs less than a war in Ukraine, a southern invasion or an assault on the Branch Davidian Compound with better public health results. Any other questions? |

Quoted: Torx all the screws!!! Everything else should be banned now View Quote I fell in love with them when i did a porch remodel a couple of years back. I've driven thousands of 16 penny nails in my life, but the impact and T25s are the shit! Matter of fact, bought a 25 lb box of them yesterday. |

I don't know what head is best /media/mediaFiles/sharedAlbum/crazykat-330.gif I stripped one of those little fuckers too and it's because the torx profile is like 3/4mm deep. Not the fault of the profile |

View Quote It took me years to discover this was a thing. Far superior design. And JIS drivers work better in Phillips than Phillips does. |

Quoted: Because if torx all the things, someone will figure out a way to fuck that up too. View Quote They make deck screws that will take either the square drive or phillips. Need one that takes a Torx or square drive, thought I saw them in deck screws with the big star in center but not sure which type they were (#2 square and either phillips or Torx to outer edge). I think they were made by Spax? |

Quoted: Bust a phillips head on my Milwaukie impact every other week. View Quote Thats seems excessive, are they cheap bits? I seem to rarely snap bits, but I also use #2R phillips instead of #2. The ones I am really disliking are the combo Phillips/slotted, Roberts found on electrical items. They dont seem to be designed to use standard Klein 8 in 1 screwdrivers. |

Quoted: If I ran for high public office I’d propose signature legislation to put a tax on all Phillips head screw production. We’d use the money to subsidize torx bits. View Quote Attached File I can't stand phillips head screws either. Square and Torx FTW. |
