I admit to becoming a 45/70 addict. I spent the weekend purchasing components and even different colors of powder coating for my bullets with the intention of color coding my ammunition Red for hot loads, yellow for mid range loads and blue for mild loads. I need more brass and lead.

We will own a Henry All Weather .45-70 someday, and that day will be full of glorious win.

Why 45-70 in a lever gun over a 375 Raptor in an AR-10?
I don’t get it. |

Bought an 1895 GBL .45-70 Government and probably will never use it to hunt but there it is. You certainly can't plink with these things as a box of ammo runs $30.00 and up. I also own a Springfield trapdoor (1873) The .45-70 may be an oldie but it's a "goodie."

45/70 is worth the time to reload. I'm figuring it costs me about 18 cents per round for plinking ammo, not counting the cost of the case which is amortized over it's useful life. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Reloading is the answer. Under 50 cents a round. As cheap as any rifle round not called 223 or steel cased. View Quote Quoted: 45/70 is worth the time to reload. This is where I remind everyone they missed out on Marlin 1895s being clearanced at Walmart for $389.
But if they bring short faced bears back I'm building a belt fed 10 gauge slug gun. Fuck that shit. |

Yes, free scrap lead from a local tire shop. I'm doing 405gr lee then powder coating. I am also ordering a Lee 340gr mold. Cast powder coated is where it's at. I can load to jacketed velocities with no ill effects. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Frickin Sweet! I'm good buddies with a local elevator that does tires, but it's mostly steel weights and they don't do much volume anyhow. Very little lead to get from them. I haven't started casting yet; I'm waiting until I have a more permanent living situation. But I've been slowly accumulating lead. Can't wait to start casting. View Quote |

In 2016 Walmart was discontinuing the M1895 for $295. With a $50 rebate I got mine for $249. I also bought 100 rounds of ammo for it. Sadly, it’s all still NIB as I’ve never shot it. It sits quietly in my safe waiting for the day that I’ll shoot it. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:
