45-70s have gotten a lot of bad press lately, but they're manufactured for a reason: to take out today's modern super animals, such as the flying squirrel, and the electric eel.

My 249 dollar Walmart special is the one that got chopped suppressed and cerakoted.
I didn't own a 45-70 until then and now they're multiplying.

Second time I've used this picture tonight.

My right shoulder used to be my ‘bad shoulder’. Had a replacement on the left one Wednesday because it got worse.

I’m not sure I could do the recoil anymore...

A guy at my old gun club had major shoulder surgery.  I do not remember what it was.  However he did get full use of his shoulder back.  It did take 3 yrs before he was back to normal.
Do your PT with the attitude you want everything back.  It will hurt, but do it anyway.  You will be surprised.

No. Not a drinker. I have a 458 SOCOM. I’m trying to decide if I want to invest $900 for a new gun/brass/dies/bullets etc....

I have a Lyman 330gr Gould mold for the 45-70. Powdercoat it and it would
Be great in a 45-70.

Nothing beats a huge ass bullet for awesome factor.

Are 300RUM, 6.5CM and 50BMG awesome?  Of course!

But can you own an evolved American military caliber which will kill everything on the earth?

Yes.

Can you own an old caliber which kills everything?

I shoot right handed but I remember having to go an auto shotgun to help with recoil before eventually giving up things like trap shooting. I use a lead sled to sight in for deer hunting.

I used a knight inline muzzle loader for a long time but I’ve forgot how it’s recoil was compared to a slug gun now

I gotta make some witj unique for summer plinking. More cheaper.

I've shot that same load. Lately I've been using IMR4064 just over published starting load. Mainly because that's the only appropriate powder I could get during the panic and I haven't changed.

Depending on diameter it can be done but you'd probably pay extra for it being octagon. They'd have to turn the end until round then thread-extra steps=extra money. IMO a threaded octagon barrel wouldn't look right. If threading I'd get a round barrel model.
