Do you people plan on taking vacations to the fucking ghetto in large US cities? There's no way any large metro area in the states, in the tourist areas, are worse than any place in Mexico. Cops that you don't have to pay off show up if you need them, you can carry in a number of them, the cartels don't have all levels of government in their pockets, and you have English as a common language. I've been to Mexico and will never set foot in that shit hole again. Florida has beaches. View Quote |

Best thing about vacationing in Mexico, besides the great scuba diving...knowing I won't run into any Arfcom basement dwellers!
It's truly sad that the majority of the people posting in this thread are scared of their own shadow...probably because it's darker than them. In 10 days I'll be spending 2 weeks in Tulum and Cozumel in a private house with friends. I'll be diving in cenotes, hunting lionfish, and exploring one of the greatest reefs on the planet...and when I'm not in the water I'll be eating fantastic food and drinking quality bourbon and rum. It's the life I choose to lead... Enjoy your Fortnite and cheetos boys! |

I got arrested in Mexico over 30 years ago during a fake traffic stop while they fished for money. Put in jail until they found out I had a motorhome full of kids and did not have lots of cash. Scary for me big time.
I used to go to Rocky Point at least 10 times a year back then. Loved the people and food, Beaches were clean. Never went back after my arrest. Still had to pay to get out of jail. |

Quoted: The only reason there are cartels full of bad people is because of the war on drugs. I learned this here in GD. If we just make drugs legal, the cartels in Mexico will magically turn good, and won't kidnap, rape, torture and kill people anymore. Drugs are good, see? I bet there are still people here saying there are safe parts of Mexico. I visited Mexico 6 times in 2018 and plenty of times before that as well. I have camped in the forest, hiked in the mountains, hitchhiked to get to the beach, wandered city streets at 3am, stayed in fleabag motels, visited isolated small towns, and met many new people in Mexico. I've been to Juarez and Tapachula and dozens of places in between. Never had a problem in Mexico. |

Tapachula is way, way better than Juarez. The Mex border towns next to the US are far sketchier. Tapachula is a jewel in comparison. Puerto Rico (yes, the US island) is a crime cesspool in comparison. View Quote My favorite places to visit in Mexico though are Mexico City and random small towns. |

It's a third world country. In third world countires life is cheap - if you're there, so is yours.
I am not an expert on Mexico but I would also imagine some of the locals might bear some amount of animosity towards Americans, which would tend to make them targets. Bear these things in mind and behave accordingly. Getting drunk or stoned and wandering around in dangerous areas of third world countries is foolhardy and a good way to get killed - as we have seen over and over again, in third world countries everywhere (check out tourist deaths in Thailand, as an example). It's Darwin at work. |

And the odds of me having any issues at all are so infinitesimally small as to be laughable because I'm a smart traveler and I don't go out of my way to piss people off or wander into shitty areas. Just like here in the states. There's hundreds of thousands of tourists in Mexico as we speak and virtually all of them are having a great time. Stop letting the media and their sensationalism scare you into living under a rock. The world is a fun place to explore. |
