I purchased new '94 and '96 corvettes (collectors edition, sold it in 1999) but never had the bug since then, until now.
I will probably try and figure out how to buy one of these in a couple years. |
|
That's a lot of performance for 60k.
I want to see one in person before passing judgment. Really curious what the Z06 and ZR1s will offer. |
|
The car looks fantastic. Even the base is now a supercar. I have a C6 and I like both the older styles as well as this newer style. They've really built an amazing machine here.
For anyone who thinks this is ugly/bad/not a Corvette, your opinion is incorrect. |

There's something to be able to just push a button instead of navigating a series of menus on a navitainment.

Corvette had done everything it could to have a front engine-rear drive be as performance oriented as they could with that design. This is the logical evolution of Corvette and it sure looks incredible. Early Corvettes looked Thunderbird-ish and didn't really look like the style of car we know today. I wonder if the C8 will be the only generation in the 2020s? |

I'd like to see the Z06 go back to NA. Bump the compression up to 13.x to 1, lighten the car, make it rev to 9k.
Then use the supercharger (or maybe even 2 turbos ) on the ZR1. |

I love it and I will be buying one. Where are the guys that said this would ruin the corvette and it would be to expensive for the average guy?

I like it. A lot. The row of buttons is derpy, but the rest of the car is awesome. I do get, and agree, that a mid engine car and Corvette just don't go together. It's not a Corvette. BUT, when they made mid engine Daytona Prototype race cars and labelled them as "Corvettes" a few years ago, the writing was on the wall. This WAS going to happen, period. All for 60k? That's flabbergasting from a value perspective. View Quote |

It looks like shit. Ive owned several Corvettes and this thing is hideous View Quote Departure from previous ok, I get that but this is the best looking car that the big 3 have cranked out outside the original GT and AC Cobra. Clearly Cheby is hoping to expand their base customer with this car and unless it drives/handles like a pregnant hippo, they’ve done that easy. Will be hard to justify a 911, Cayman, Supra, Z4 or even an exotic. The rear isn’t the best lines but even that doesn’t take away from the overall success of the design. They’ll sell everyone they can make for sure. |

Cant stop yawning at y'all old fukrs crying over a better vette. Just an FYI, your old vette has nothing on these new ones.
Its fast as shit. It looks insane and the quality has been improved. Sign my old ass up. |

I like it. I want one. I'll probably never buy one as I'm looking forward to having money in retirement and can't afford both.

I like the way it looks except for the Camaro-esque rear end. The console also doesn't seem practical, but maybe it actually works when driving? All-in-all, a fantastic performance car for relatively cheap money.
As for the "It doesn't look like a Corvette" crowd, does the C7 look like a C1? No!!! All they have in common is an engine in the front. By your standards, everything since the C1 hasn't "been a Corvette". |

I think it is a good looking car. It looks like a Ferrari in a way. It's a big break in tradition going to a mid-engine configuration though. I hope that gamble pays off for them.

I'm pretty sure there are going to be a lot of these running the street and that's the problem. You won't really stand out after a year 2/3. If you get one early you'll get the looks though but what you're getting for the price man on man.... |
|
Looks okay to me with the exception of the rear end. It's blocky looking for lack of a better word. Same feeling I get when I see the Camaros.
|
|
So does it have the reliability of an exotic or of a Chevy? What better way to mask your shit reliability than to compete against a segment of cars that are known for shit reliability. Also for everyone saying it's an amazing value......well you get what you pay for.

I like it, a lot. If I didn't live on a gravel road I would be first in line to buy one. This road has saved me a lot of money over the years.

C4 and C5 were evolutions of the lines. C6 and C7 refined the lines. It would be like Porsche overly fucking with the 911 recipe. Seeing the front engine layout vette disappear is a pisser right up there with seeing the Viper disappear. The Viper could have been reborn with a proper V8 but it is gone. And if Chevy kills the Camaro what then? The ZL1-1LE and SS-1LE are both a bad bitch for road handling. |

This is the best Vette yet.
Those of you saying that this is not a Corvette are clueless. What does that even mean? I could post pictures of Vettes over the years and there have been radical changes. The 1963 Stingray was a radical departure form the '50s to 1962 Vettes. Perhaps your are thinking of the Porsche 911 silhouette which has had only minor design changes in 50 years. |

As some of you know, I have owned a 2009 Corvette Z51, and I now own a 2016 Corvette Stingray. I am very critical of the C8 after seeing the presentation. The Corvette was always a capable car for a several days road trip. Or, you could pickup the groceries on the way back from the track. Now, the C8 cargo space is split between a frunk, and a somewhat larger space behind the engine. GM Engineer Tadge presented as having as much combined space as the current C7. And he showed a pile of luggage and claimed it would fit in the car. I maintain that Tadge's demonstration was misleading. Allow me to show why. Here is a picture of my C7 packed for an afternoon at the shooting range. Rifle case, large ammo bag that can also hold a pistol or two, and a day bag for binoculars and accessories. I've actually put several rifles in my trunk, + ammo and gear. Conclusion? Going to the range with more than a couple of pistols and an ammo bag? The C8 stays home. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.corvetteforum.com-vbulletin/500x375/48326298031_693ff839bf_9d9fae93899712bae03a2756397d4b5c5306f30e.jpg Some people don't like guns. That's OK. Do they like to go to the beach instead? Well, here is the C7 with a body board bag packed with 2 boards. There's a cooler, and look! We've got room left over for beach towels. If you're careful, you could put a couple of folding beach or camp chairs under the body board bag. Conclusion? Going to the beach with more than a couple of towels and a small cooler? The C8 stays home. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.corvetteforum.com-vbulletin/500x375/48326424627_06eca5d533_be2039ce05439c9ec79ed9827a3e125d4c4c9388.jpg The Corvette is America's premier sports car, but the Corvette doesn't just live at the track. Thousands of owners do more mundane things with the Corvette, like drive to and from work, and yes, picking up the groceries. You don't always think of your Corvette as a "grocery getter" but come-on, we've all done it! Here's the C7 doing duty as the grocery hauler. Going to the food store gets a lot harder if we plan on getting more than a couple of days worth of groceries. Conclusion? Going supermarket shopping for the family? The C8 stays home. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.corvetteforum.com-vbulletin/500x375/48326297406_4763de0af3_1884052c7098963b5a69bb82bf7dddec1bdc6074.jpg I say the Corvette was not just an awesome sports car, it was also a capable car for a several days road trip. Or, you could pickup the groceries on the way back from the track. In the presentations, we saw the C8 cargo space, split as it is between the front & rear, and strictly limited to small bags, means that Chevy is pushing the consumers toward the European pattern where the sports car is just another rich man's day tripper, and not a useful American road car.
