Call me crazy, but I think they would have won state if they put in Uncle Rico!

Our Napoleon in High School was:
-CIA operative -Flew F-15's on the weekend with his uncle -Hunted deer with his 700 Nitro Express, double barrell no less and he always fired both at them -Was already preselected to be Special Forces when he graduated -There was many more that I can't remember but he was a trip and he'd go as deep into the wormhole as you'd take him. |

It's not you, OP, it's them. I watched that abomination, just waiting for it to be funny, since everyone said it was so funny. End credits rolled, and I was still waiting. Complete waste of 96 minutes. View Quote Did you watch it again? It might sound dumb but it wasn't funny for me until the second time. And now I think it's hilarious. |

What the hell am I watching? ive never seen it before.is this camp? View Quote I'm with you on this. Probably one of the worst movies I ever wasted my time on trying to understand why the buzz back then! |

My brother in law has convinced his daughter that my name is in fact Rico.
Hence she calls me Uncle Rico at every family gathering. I told her to ask her dad if he can throw a football over those mountains. |

Unbearably retarded movie. Worse than Dale and Tucker vs. Evil.
Most people disagree with me, but those two movies in my mind sucked more dick than a Vegas strip hooker on a Saturday night. |

It's only like the funniest movie about Idaho anybody ever made. Dang. |

Quoted: If you have the DVD, watch the movie with the commentary. The two guys that made the movie based almost every single thing off of real-life experiences in their childhood. The old guy shooting the cow was embellished for the movie, but it really happened. They shot the movie in their hometown. They had to beg some old guy to sell them the moon boots that Napoleon wore. They also rented Uncle Rico's van from a local guy. It's very interesting. View Quote I believe that actor that played Napolean only got paid $1000.

I turned it off after about 15-20 minutes the first time.
I must have tuned in on cable mid show and found it funnier and eventually watched it all the way through. It is certainly an off beat brand of humor. |

It has more modern aspects to it, makes me think it takes place in the early 90's, but some parts because they are small town USA, look 80's. I like it. View Quote That's part of the gag--that popular culture from the 80's and 90's is just hitting small-town Idaho, generally via the dollar store. At one point in the film Napolean was wearing moon boots (lol). |

I agree also. All you have to do is look at the characters, their conflict, and their development. It really is a good story. ETA: off topic i know, but "The Nightmare before Christmas" is a similar story, that deals with similar themes. Conflict resolution. |

OP fail. The movie is a modern art masterpiece. Agree I agree also. All you have to do is look at the characters, their conflict, and their development. It really is a good story. The filmmaker created a movie populated by assholes and dorks--but he never once judged or condescended to his characters. |

I just remembered the part where Kip runs over the unbreakable bowl with the van, it shatters and he just takes off .

Napoleon Dynamite is a great movie. The comedy is not spoon fed you like a Seth Rogan film. My son's buddies were very much like the cast.
OP needs to put down his phone. Sit back and pay attention. This is a funny movie. |

the filmmaker created a movie populated by assholes and dorks--but he never once judged or condescended to his characters. View Quote A hint to those above -Napoleon started as an asshole, he lied to Pedro (about the picture), he dissed Deb, ditched school, threw things out of the bus. Rex-Kwando, changed him. And the WHOLE STORY CHANGES. Go back and watch it again. |

Don was my favorite character. Knew several guys like him in HS.
OP voted for Summer. |

ful·fill·ment fool'filment noun 1. satisfaction or happiness as a result of fully developing one's abilities or character. "she did not believe that marriage was the key to happiness and fulfillment" 2. the achievement of something desired, promised, or predicted. "winning the championship was the fulfillment of a childhood dream" There isn't a lot of happiness or success or human fulfilment in the film--it is more a film about human yearning amid quiet unspoken sadness--but the filmmaker turns it into pitch-perfect human comedy (Can you bring me my chapstick?/No./But my lips hurt real bad!) |

Would need to know the OP's general age before I responded. As for me a teenager in the 80's that movie is funny as hell and hits home on so many levels. Laugh out loud funny in my case.

It's kind if a cliche to say so about a movie, but I didn't care for it the first time I saw it. After watching it again, I thought it was hilarious.
