Millennials were not born in the 2000s. That's Gen Z.

Millennials were born between 1981 and 1996.

My first streetbike was a 1979 CB750F with the twin cam motor. I got my learners permit at 15 years and one day old, at 15.5 I took my riding test and had my motorcyle license a full 6 months before my my automobile license. Then in 1984, about a month before high school graduation, I used money earned from my job and a commercial mowing company myself and my Brothers had started, I bought a leftover 1983 GPZ750.

I have been on motorcycles since I was 6 or 7. Had an endorsement for almost 40 years. Christ...there was a three year span in Socal that my only transport was an FZR1000. I have something like 250K on a motorcycle just during the time I lived in Socal (10 years)....

The current Hot rod is a Ducati 1299....

I do miss them, sold the Suzuki picked up a Honda Sabre VF700, much more comfortable on longer cruses.  I gave them up in the early 90s, but miss riding.   I get my fix on my quad now.

I blew off school to see Ozzy and Metallica in May, 1986.  That was a good day.

I blew off work on a Thursday (7 Aug 1986) to go see queensryche open for AC/DC.  It was a good gen-x day too.

I had that exact same bike, got it on my 16th Bday. I rode that thing all winter regardless of weather snow on the roads. Oil pump failed and it seized up,I rebuilt the top and just started running mix.

78' here, what a different (better) world it was. I wanted the G.I. Joe aircraft carrier so damn bad. My parents couldn't afford one so my dad made one out of wood for me. He was the man.

I graduated in '83 and spent the rest of that decade dirt poor, stressed out with college, busting my ass for the $3.25 bus ticket home to work all weekend, find a ride back 12 miles too the bus stop just to get back to school and hope my friends would pick me up 9 miles from the bus station back to school.
After that, I was homeless for a while, living in a camper shell in the back of my truck and showering at a sewage treatment plant I worked at.

Pretty much summed up the 90's too working 3 jobs to stay afloat. Had 11 days off a year, including weekends and holidays.

And it was STILL a good time. Hard times, but good.

There is no solid date and never will be, because it's not about dates, it's about shared experiences.

I know people born 5-8 years after me who I relate to better than I do with a few who are older, and I came at the very end of gen x.

We didn't have social media or a cell phone till college, and are the last to remember the world before a ubiquitous internet (1993-1995ish) ... if you're the person who can explain millenial nonsense and tech to your boomer parents ...

The kid in the 2nd pic has that look of, "Holy shit this landing is gonna hurt !! But the flight sure was worth it."

And I can totally relate to that. Jumping our bikes; misjudging the speed or trajectory and hitting either a tree, your friend, some big-ass rock. Or just slamming into the ground after a 3-4 second flight and winding up with God-knows-what stuck in your hair, your knees, your elbows, your eye(s), or just sticking out of the hole it just made. And if you wore a helmet or knee or elbow pads, you got called a fag. Hell, you'd get shit if you wore a shirt, most of the time. Shorts and shoes were basically all we wore in the summer. And sometimes shoes were optional.

BEST FUCKING TIME OF MY LIFE!

Pfff.

You didn't have the hard plastic seat that did virtually the same thing?

Also, have the vertical scars on your shins healed up completely?

When I was a kid we took all of my Joe’s behind the house into the woods and destroyed them. Now as an adult I wish I still had them. I’ve been contemplating on going behind my parents house to try and find the parts. But every now and then I scour eBay for them. They’re so ridiculous in price now.

When the kids got old enough to take to the Patton Museum we used to go to the Golden Nugget Army Surplus Store. I would give each of them twenty bucks and they would go nuts.

I bought a lot of stuff from Golden Nugget.

Sadly just like the all of the armor at the Patton Museum, Golden Nugget is gone
