Yup! Looks farkin AWESOME! I was leaning towards the Tac-14 with the wood furniture... but I saw Mossberg's Shokwave in wood behind the counter and fell in love! The rear grip is both a little narrow and q bit slick... I see some skateboarding tape in its future. View Quote |

Great idea!
I have been hosting 2-gun & 3-gun matched in the warmer months over the last few years. Mostly guys I work with. I keep telling everyone that they will get a 5 sec. bonus if they show up in a costume, like Addidas track suit w/AK & Makarov, or WWII USGI, WWII partisan, the A-Team, etc. 70’s to 90’s themed sounds like a lot of fun. Count me in. |
|
PLUS... I was talking to one of the counter guys at the LGS..... he was "Where on ARFcom are they talking about this? It sounds cool!"
....so we might have yet another participant! |

I’ve hacked out a rough sketch of three equipment divisions. Rifle is the same for everyone, differences are with the handgun and shotgun.
Uniformed Division Handgun: 6-shot revolver, .38Spl or larger No moonclips allowed (clip guns OK, just no clips... .45Autorim or similar is suggested) No compensators or porting allowed Weighted or “overextended” grips (i.e. Hogue Big Butt) not allowed Iron sights only, no fiberoptic, optical or electronic sights allowed Shotgun: Manual operation (pump, lever, bolt, break open) only 12 or 20 gauge No more than 9 rounds allowed in the gun at any time. Why don't we have "uniformed" and "detective" use the same sidearm type (revolver).... just one is used from Sam Browne gear while the other is used from an OWB style holster. That frees up "under cover" to use a semi auto?

Oh, speedloaders should definitely be allowed.
“Detective” Division could be expanded to allow .32s and .380s, makes more sense that way anyway. |

Interesting how this evolved into more of a cops and robbers sort of theme than a general period one. Anyhow, does anyone recall these slings being around back in the day? GRSC V-TAC Snap Sling made by Ed Verdugo. Very little online about it, although I think I saw a comment on a forum that it inspired the Giles tactical sling that debuted in 1989. Maybe an open class to represent the time period broadly (if you could get it during the time period in question, it can be used). I'm curious about the bipod prohibition. A lot of combat rifles available back then to varying degrees came with assault bipods [among others, the HK-91, Port. AR-10, FAL, BM-59 and BM-69, etc., and more easily removable (including clamp-on) bipods for M1As/M-14s, ARs, and such]. |
