I stumbled across the "Utah Special" combat woodsman from Flatrock Forge that looks to fit the gap I'd like to fill. Any input on that option? Watch: I've come to realize that I really like the vintage skindiver style. I saw some articles mentioning that one and then saw one available LNIB for a decent discount below retail, figured I'd give it a try. The brand is owned by Fossil now but maintains a legit Swiss production facility and the watches appear to be faithful to the brand history. |

I hate the handle on my 4 so much I designed and built a knife the same size package but with a handle that doesn't suck and a blade that doesn't have a giant choil and it ended up being a 5" bladed knife with a decent handle. Lol (not really Randall or esee style though) I handled a HM esee 4 and it's a way better design than the standard 4. Attached File |

But unlike the 1911, there is really nothing special about it and the steel is long since passed being acceptable. Still don't understand the nostalgia. No one has ever explained it. It's just something they want. If it's the design you like, get it from someone else. While I am not a fan of Mike Stewart (blackjack), I'm even less a fan of the one you mentioned. Overpriced and a bit full of himself. At least Mike Stewart is just full of himself. And he does have some reason to be. Still, arrogant prick. There are some good options out there these days, with better steels. That's not to say you need the latest trendy steel, but there are steels out there that will outperform the steels used by Randall everyday. Of course, if it is a collectible piece you really want just for the name, there is nothing to do but wait five years. |
