I believe there were/are laws in Maine that feeding prisoners lobster too often is forbidden and considered inhumane.
I totally agree. Garbage sea cockroach that literally eats rotting flesh and fish poop. No thanks. |

If you want poor man's lobster that is actually a shellfish:
Argentinian red shrimp are the way to go. These things are huge and offer similar texture/taste. Also you are only paying for meat by the lb. Not meat and shell |

If you like scallops but don't want to pay for them, sea skate taste just like scallops. Fillet the wings and use a cookie cutter to stamp out some scallops....

I have heard that ray/skate tastes like scallops. Most of the rays I have caught have been Texas Stingrays. I know they get bigger, but the ones I have caught have been about 16" (none of those large things I have seen in the bahamas). I did get into a school of cow nosed rays once. I wanted to try one but the people I was fishing with would not have it. They were convinced 1) they knew more than me, and 2) it would taste like shit. The cow nosed rays were one hell of a fight - those had about 3' wing spans.
- Anyway was going to do the recipe today - but no lemon. Will try to get some lemon later this week and try again then. |
