Very nice. I've been looking at new SUVs for the wife. Lexus had made the list but probably getting a Highlander for the third row.

Soooo... without much digging at all we are almost at $4k.
Holy shit on the insurance cost! Is that normal?
We setup a group plan for a bunch of 1099's working for the same company.  The rates we were able to get were anywhere from 10 - 30% less than everyone was paying on their own.

With a $5,000 deductible silver plan, a married couple in their sixties are paying ~$1,550.  A family of three with the parents in their late 40's and 1 young kid are paying $1,100.  Single person in their 40's runs about $400.  Add ~$40 a head for dental and vision, which don't cover much these days.  So a family of four, with older parents and a $2,500 deductible plan, $2400/month sounds a bit high but not ridiculous.  I wasn't 1099 at the time, but the older guys tell me their rates are more than double what they were before Obama.

There are significant tax advantages for many 1099 people, but if you look at the actual out of pocket cost for health insurance, yes, it is pretty crazy.  Many (most?) people paying don't care because their employee plans have shielded them from the bulk of the increases.  But I can tell you if Sally fucking facebook saw an extra $1,200 a month being directly removed from the family paycheck, she might actually give a fuck about paying for Joe deadweight's health insurance.

Sally is a dumb cunt.  Don't be Sally.

Last year the lowest spent was 758.49, the most was 1015.03, and the average was 901.56.

This covers food, insurance, internet, utilities, and clothing/entertainment.

yes.  employer subsidized health insurance really obfuscates the actual cost which has BALLOONED since ACA/0-care.  Just like payroll withholding for income tax - nobody really looks at their pay stub.

And that insurance cost is going up 10-25% every year for the next who knows how many years.

There comes a point where you are just buying stuff to buy stuff. Really have been trying to cut back on that. Excluding mortgage 4k a month is hard to hit if you own your vehicles.

Why the hell exclude mortgage payments?

I certainly exceed $4k a month pretty regularly.

Sadly yes.

Wife and I are going to really work on that this year. Hopefully in 12-18 months we can pay all our monthly expenses with just the single income and start investing the other. We want early retirement and to do the full time RV life for a while.

Need to vest a good 10 years in this company to really reap the benefits of the ESOP. That will put me at 50 YO.

Lofty goals but I have attained more than I ever could have imagined thus far so I just may surprise myself.

No mortgage, no vehicle loan, no credit card debt.
Retired and essential expenses run on average of $1650 a month and it includes ALL expenses that make up essentials including insurance on two vehicles and house as well as property taxes and internet and cable.
Hell I even budget $60 a month for Christmas spending.
Discretionary expenses( play money) runs from $300 a month to as much as a $1000 a month.
Life is good.

That is good, I'd love to get mine that low. I retired somewhat unexpectedly in August. I'd planned to work another year and a half so I still have some debt out there. One truck note & one mortgage note. Combined they are <$1,500/mo and both will be gone by Sept. I own two houses and four autos and my expenses run right at $4K/mo excluding property taxes.

We're putting one of the houses (paid for) on the market next month but I need to quit hemorrhaging $$ too. Sell a couple of the autos, cut cable at one home, etc...

If I wasn't paying for college and living expenses for a kid in college, we probably wouldn't spend even close to $4000 a month.  We live pretty simply.
