The frames are all just wrong.   The CAD interpretation was so far off, it's just getting things worse, and as we work towards the engines and wings, it just makes things worse.   It is probably easier to just start over with most of it.

Is that top picture the flattest piece of plywood you can get for $25?  The edge looks like the profile of a water slide.

Pretty sure that's where they cut out a fuselage contour.

Almost done on the tiling on the hangar.   They are discussing paint on the outside right now and some detail trim.   We should be ready for lights soon too.

Our F-22 1/48 scale model is getting used pretty much all the time now with the caliper.   We stopped work on it so we could continue to take measurements without breaking details.

Last main frame laid out yesterday.   You can see the outside box dimension they started with, then using the previous version, along with new frames further up the fuselage, create the new shape, paying close attention to changes that need to happen.

Won't back drive.  Lots of torque.  Gives robotics kids something to do.  Let me know if you decide to use this before buying any.  I may have connections.

If on a single cable, it can bank AND yaw.  Motors can be in the plane - 1 motor per direction, line runs from the ceiling, to the plane, through the motor, back up to the ceiling.

Getting a 12VDC 30A Switching supply is pretty cheap these days as well, if there's power already up in the roof, could be a deep cycle battery and 2A continual charger in the loop would wok but be pretty heavy.  That could also work for the bomb doors on the plane itself at 140° rotation per second, maybe a little too slow for the bomb doors.

I really Like that option, the gearhead motors are really hard to find with a general purpose mounting.  Sidetrack: I'm looking for something similar to that to lift/lower range targets that will run on a small 12VDC Gel Cel like used in UPS power supplies so basically same thing but a little faster with lower current and a bit less load needed.  I guess the bit that I'd like would also be snappy enough for the bomb doors on the F-22, at one turn per second (60 RPM)

@brass,

Go to the AndyMark website.  Lots of motors and gearboxes.  You just have to figure out how to control them.  I'm thinking you know how.

One of our high school robots used a CIM motor and a gearbox with about a 185:1 reduction.  Enough torque to lift a 135 or so lb robot off the ground.  Also enough torque to twist a half inch diameter shaft 90 degrees.  Getting that gearbox apart after that was fun.

Your painter should remember that hanger was originally painted by the lowest bidding contractor, and then generations of very bored Airmen who were only painting it so they didn't get KP duty & lose their weekend pass.

Guns,  are you sure the 1/48 scale model is accurate?  I haven't checked for the one you're using,  but I've seen reviews on aircraft models in the past where dimensions have been off and shapes have been wrong.

It at least looks like a Raptor.   I'm sure there are a few places where some things can't accurately be scaled, but it looks pretty good.   If we can make it look like the 1/48 scale model, we will be doing better than the Iranians.
