Inverters all seem to be very similar to each other. I have hooked different brands together just using the panel connections with no problems frequently. |

I should have bought a pair of the Champion 2500W dual fuel units when they were $414 a few weeks back. They're back up to $480 on Amazon now. And now that I've seen $414, I'll probably refuse to buy unless I can get them at $425. Which means I'll probably never have them. Ha.

I just saw this pricing on a unit I own and am very pleased with using regularly.
AiPower 2KW Dual Fuel Inverter Generator $358.54, Free Shipping I run this in parallel with my Predator 3500 tri fuel (NashFuel Conversion) and it has performed well for the past 2 years or so. I test under load monthly for around 45-60 minutes or so. |

Most non-inverter gen sets will keep singing their 3,600rpm song regardless of the load. Per the manufacturer ratings, the enclosures seem to knock the noise down about 3dB. Probably slightly noticeable in a quiet camp site. But, don't be fooled. With these inverter generators you'll still know a generator is running. But, you'll only piss off a 100' circle of campsites around you vs a half mile circle with a non-inverter. Or, if someone close by is running a non-inverter, everyone will hate that guy instead of you. |

From what I gather from online reviews and this thread, they're mostly (over 50%) like new, but with Firman having a 3 year warranty on new ones, a few of them might have been sent back to Firman after a LOT of use. If they've ever been on a jobsite they'll look beat to crap, but I doubt many of them have seen that sort of use.
This one is brand new and should have the 3 year warranty instead of the 90 day refurb warranty. https://www.ebay.com/itm/314145995882 |

Power out. Predator 3500 out on the patio, keeping things going.
I usually put a large piece of plywood on the patio table and a sawhorse if it's raining but I no longer have the plywood. But I do have a large aluminum dog box (like goes in a truck bed) which seems to be working. It's open (with slots) on 3 sides for ventilation. I have it raised a little on pavers. I can just tilt it up for refueling and such. It actually didn't rain much since I set it all up. I have my router, TV's, fridge and freezers, a couple fans, and a couple lights. I also have my usual headlamps and other battery powered things, plus the jackery. What I don't have is AC, but it's very pleasant at the moment. Tomorrow will be another story. |

Before I get to my question, I want to thank every single one who has helped in this thread. I greatly benefited from this forum before/during/after the Texas snowstorm and know y’all have helped a ton of others too.
So, I work on my generator preps all the time. One sticky point for me is the starter battery on my HF 3500. It frequently lacks juice to start the generator. This morning, I pulled the generator out to test a new sound baffle thing and the battery is dead. I love learned from the last time it was out and needed it, that you need to hold the electric start button to even pull start the generator. Battery is on the charger now but it’s a giant pain to have to disconnect/reconnect every month or so Any work arounds? Oh, before it comes up, I don’t run the generator monthly because it’s set up for NG and I don’t have to worry about fuel sitting. Thanks in advance |

I replaced the OEM battery with a different one. That one pooped out as well. I removed the battery and just use the cord. It starts easily with the cord.

Thanks in advance View Quote Disconnecting (I know you said that was a pain) or trickle charging are about the only two options. The fact that you mess with your generator prep every month probably makes you better than 99.9% of the rest of us. I used mine for a power outage in March and haven't even looked at mine since. Prior to that, it was probably 10 months or so. In fact, I never drained the gas after the outage in March. I'll do that this weekend after being reminded because of the hurricane, but after the gas is drained and I make sure the oil is full, I'll cover it with a contractor trash bag and won't touch it again (but mine doesn't have a starter or battery). My generator preps focus more on having my gas cans full. I go through a lot of gas in the summer because of mowing, and I get lazy filling them sometimes. |

Generator is stored in a shed with no power so a trickle charger, while the likely solution, is not attractive. Guess I’ll just have to suck it up |

Or, you could try a cheaper brand. If the battery is difficult to get to, it wouldn't take much to wire up some terminals that you could mount on the side of the generator. Not sure if the generator uses the battery for anything other than starting. But, if it doesn't, this solution might make it possible to get rid of the battery all together. |
