@cinco1

What do you mean by ergonomics that makes you shoot a 26 better than a 17?

I have huge hands, and a range trip with a buddies 26 lead me to realize I shoot it terribly as I basically have two fingers on the grip.

Would be interested to hear what makes you shoot the tiny G better than the full sized one.

The longer barrels are going by the wayside as optics catch on and bullet velocity is largely unimportant past compact barrel lengths.

That’s why the 19x was so popular despite the “long barrel short grip” autistic screeching

Not in the least bit obsolete, but I'm wondering with Shield arms making flush 15 round mags for the 43x, how many other pistols can actually increase their capacity?  Would bet nice for a g17 with a flush 20+ round mag, or VP9....

No...but your my mission dictates size, weight and capacity. I'm not a fat ass at 160 lbs. but I don't carry IWB because I would need to increase the waist band by two inches on all my pants. Compact, light weight and easy concealment fits my mission, if that means five rounds so be it. I figure if I fail to stop a threat in five shots I shouldn't have been carrying to start with.

Nah. I'd bet most handguns aren't ever carried, and you can conceal a full-size. It takes a little more work, but it can be done.

I keep meaning to buy a compact pistol to try one out, but just end up buying another steel frame full-size gun.

The only compact pistols I own are ancient .32s and .380s.

How did people in the "before times" ever manage to carry and conceal a 1911 or a wheelgun! Oh the huge manatee!!!!

I don't know why people think fullsize guns are obsolete. Most of the small compact guns you see have extendo pads that makes them about the same grip size as a G19 or P228. The grip is the part that is harder to hide and everyone sticks something on the end of the mags to get the same number of rounds in what amounts to a full size gun.

No.

No, not at all.

There was a brief surge of small pistols during the so-called "assault weapons ban" of the 90s due to standard cap mags being expensive.

Now?  No way.  There's a niche for the subcompact guns, they will never overtake full/midsized handguns without another mag capacity ban.

No they haven’t. Doubt you’ll ever see anything but full sized in police and military holsters.

(I consider the M18 full sized)

Define full size.

Handguns with 5"+ barrels are definitely obsolete, as the USMC adoption of the M18 over the M17 demonstrates.

But if you're declaring everything larger than a Sig P365 or Glock  obsolete then you're just being silly.

For some reason, I cannot shoot a G19 quite as well as I can shoot a G17. I suppose the extra 12 mm of length could help site radius. But I'd be lying if I said I understood the site radius argument to begin with.

In any event, there's still an argument for full-size guns out in the wild. I am referring specifically to the G20 and G40. Truth be told, I don't understand the rationale for the G29's existence at all.

I don't know about obsolete but they're not popular and don't appear to have been for a while.

Take the Glock 19 for example, I'd be interested to know how many if those sell vs the 17.

I think the pistols that really caused the subcompact CCW gun market to explode though were the S&W Shield and Sig 365

Hell no.  I prefer carrying a full size and do most of the time.  I downsize to compact or micro if needed for attire, but I can be a lot more effective and put more rounds on target faster with a P-09 and 22 rounds on tap than I can be with my Hellcat.

my edc carry gun is my glock 34,  I do have a glock 26, but I hardly ever use it.

I just prefer full size pistols.   Plan on getting a long slide to put on my polymer 80 and it will probably become my EDC.

Fullsize pistols are CCW pistols, with a good belt and holster and some trial and error.

You can even conceal fullsize pistols with WMLs, RDS, comps, magwells, and mag extensions.

Even admittedly ridiculous modified fullsize pistols. Yes, that monstrosity was intended, built, and is currently used as a concealed EDC gun. For reference I’m 5’10” and 150lbs at most, and it still disappears. Just have to know what you’re doing and be willing to try a few different things before you settle on what works for you

I can shoot any of my semiautos from LCP, XDS, G26, G19, G30, G30S, P14-45 well enough to defend myself, but as far as comfort, second shot accuracy, and overall confidence the 17 round VP9 is my best carry gun. I’m still getting used to using the optic.

No.  Longer sight radius, more weight out front to counter recoil, and the ballistic advantages of a longer barrel are all reasons to have a full size.  No reason to go smaller for a nightstand gun, duty pistol, or one that will be open carried.
