Question:

Does a regular bayonet fit a 16" barrel, A2 flash hider and mid length gas/fore-stock?

If you have the FSB (or at least the bayonet lug) at the normal mid-length position, then yes.

Carbine length gas block with bayo lug at mid-length position:

They could in 1918.

(Skip to 6:40 for bayonet info.)

After a couple mags through the can though, all you'd have to do is touch their face with it.

I have a bayonet for almost every rifle that will accept one.

I need to get one for the K98 and the Arisaka.

Too bad no one sells a standalone pinnable bayonet lug like that for any size gas block journal.  I had to get ADCO to remove the lug and ring from a FSB and install them as pictured below:

I'm not that comfortable with the clamp-on stuff out there, especially since use will involve impact against the thing.  Also looks hideous, IMO.

Overall, I think it turned out nice.  They quoted me $75 to remove it from the FSB, clean it up, and drill and pin it to the barrel.  Now I just need to order an OKC-3S bayonet to go with it.

Thanks.  It's my first AR.  Had to California-ize it before putting the BCG in, though.  Geissele 10.5" Mk16 completely covers the gas block while leaving enough of the journal exposed to attach the bayonet lug.

The Sarco reproductions look pretty good. Full tang,  supposedly 440 stainless. Sharp. Grip screws are the Chicago type and a bit flimsy, they will get replaced. The muzzle ring is too tight and will need to be opened up a bit, but the latch works fine. Good for a cutdown project or functional non-collectible sticker.

For self defense there's nothing a bayonet will do that a bullet won't do better. It also adds length to a rifle that makes it less manueverable in close quarters.

OK, I have to buy a bayonet now.  Thinking an M9 is the right choice.

But, which one, and where to get it?

I guess you missed the Point.. get it the point. Close quarters is exactly what a bayonet is for. You know like hand to hand combat.

Bayonets are essential.

However, if you're using your bayonet ... "A bad day, just got worse."

There has to be a 'bayonet for home defense' newsletter.

Please send link.

I would think the bayonet is only for situations where you faced multiple assailants and couldn't change mags before the last couple of assholes charged you.

If I have a rifle with a bayonet lug, then I also have a bayonet that goes with it.

No plans to use them clearing the house.

The sight of a mounted bayonet would make a bold statement concerning one's
determination to defend one's homestead however.

Back when Uncle Sam's Retail Outlet was still in business, they occasionally had unissued surplus M9 bayonets made by Ontario Knife, at a price that wasn't too steep.

Ontario Knife has new M9 bayonets on their website, and I've seen them listed on Amazon, but they are a bit expensive.

If you're going to pay $130 for an M9, you might as well get an older Phrobis or Buck with the unfinished stainless blade and the fuller. They look much cooler.

or eBay

My favorite M16 bayonet is the Eickhorn 2000 or 2005, but the early M9 is the best looking IMHO.

I remember when my go-to rifle by necessity was a M-44 Mosin-Nagant.  My best friend similarly had his 91/30 standing by for home defense.

Ever since I got my 14.5 upper, I have this bayonet craze. I bought a bayonet for each rifle, and my mossberg 590a1 came with a bayonet.

Overall really love the bayonet set up. Yes, a bayonet will command a lot of attention. The military uses it during crowd control or prisoner escort and the reason so is exactly as described by the OP. They might bum rush a guard with a rifle thinking he might not shoot them, but with a bayonet attached it commands a lot of force because you can easily get stabbed by it if you get unruly. I remember reading something about this a long time ago.

Haven't heard anybody mention the unlikelihood of collateral casualties due to your bayonet overpenetrating the target and/or going through walls.

The bayonet adapters for 16” look ugly as hell.  I have pondered cutting the tang under the grip, welding in a 1.5” extension, and making new scales that much longer.  Talking about the M7 bayonet, not an M9.

So my bayonet came in.  No issues fitting at all.  Shown below on my AR in its free State configuration with BCG removed.  Also, while normally I'm not fond of the way featureless/ban-compliant guns look, it does amuse me somewhat that I can have a ban-compliant rifle with a large knife hanging off of the end of it, so pics in its featureless configuration as well (bayonet lugs are not a feature for purposes of our AWB).  Ironically, that grip angle is better-suited to using the carbine as a pole arm.

Should my bayonet be serrated for the intruder's pleasure?

potential for an actual use is there, , we need this door breached, no bullets used, or we need this wall made into a  door, ect.

Though a demo saw would be better suited i think.
