I don't think Magpul has gone down hill at all, its just there's a lot more competition in the same marketplace these days. I hate to say it, but Bill croaking was the best thing to happen to that company |

Gun companies will come and go. Just as with smugglers, capitalists, politicians, and gangsters, if there is money to be made, someone will step into the gap and start making money.
If they don't have the business skill to give the buyers what they want, they will fold, and someone else will start making whatever they think will sell. If they get it right, they make money, if they aren't smart enough to make what the public wants, they won't make money and they will fold. If prices are too high, the buying public will ignore them. The tricks are figuring out what the public really wants, and what they are willing to pay for it. |

When I read the thread title I thought Colt, but Remington is a close second. Between Savage, Ruger, and Tikka why would anyone buy a Remington. For shotguns I have always preferred Mossberg over Remington anyways. But, back in the day when I was 25 years younger and living in upstate NY, the 870 and highly desirable 1100s were kings with the Model 700 being on top for rifles. Not at all today.

Those are good options in the AR market. Most of them used to be the affordable brands. Now they're more or less dead. CMMG has done well to stay above those brands. They used to be more middle of the road, but they have some interesting 9mm ARs, caliber conversions and other options. |
