When I joined this site I would have described it as a site about ARs, the 2A and firearms in general with a strongly conservative political slant.  Now I think site is more about far right conspiracy theories and anger at everything than it is about the 2A or guns.

The world has fundamentally changed in the past 5 years or so, and this has broken a lot of the people who are on this site.  People who would have told you they were tough, indepenent resilient people weren't.  They were fragile.  And they broke.

Threads about this conflict, about a major land war in Europe, are a great example of how completely broken so many people are now.  They cannot view anything with a critical lens.  Everything that happens is viewed based on their extreme political tribalism.

Threads like this one, and a few tech forums, are what keep me coming back.  But I've made the decision to start spending more of my time on other forums.  They are smaller forums, with very little Ukraine.
discussion".  But all of the threads are about topics that interest me.  A new post won't get 10 ore more responses in an hour.  It may not get 10 responses ever.  The responses will be useful, on topic and meaningful.

Since there's a lull in the action as UA consolidates, I'd like to bring something up about this.

Our 2A activism forum is in a sad state of disrepair and lacks satisfactory visibility. (I'd argue that it deserves its own main menu item.) The site is always talking about bringing new shooters into the fold but is doing little to channel them (or old shooters) into activism. I posted 10 months ago in the suggestion forum and GB acknowledged it but not a thing has been done. It's a crucial time for us and we're not harnessing potential support. So I'm bringing it up here, in case anyone wants to post in that thread or create a new one to encourage some action on that front. It wouldn't be a bad time for the site to promote something we can all agree on.

Here's the suggestion thread
https://www.ar15.com/forums/General/Revive-the-Pro-2nd-Activism-Forum/2-2510097/

Here's the 2A Activism forum (that no one knows about )
https://www.ar15.com/forums/General/Pro-2nd-Activism/156/

If ARFCOM really wanted to promote the 2nd Amendment and Conservative values or any values at all it would lock GD behind a paywall. GD is one of my main sources of entertainment and information but with that being said it can be the biggest collection of retardation in the gun world. I can see how a person just getting interested in firearms and the 2nd Amendment scanning a few threads in GD and deciding they wanted no part of anything to do with this crowd.

The problem with putting GD behind a paywall would be that then the non-paying accounts would start posting GD stuff in tech forums, shitting all over them and making a lot more work for the mods.

I'm not saying that it still might not be the best answer, but it would be something to consider.

It reminds me of this from scout camp bout 50 years ago:

Soldier: General, we're going into battle and I'm scared. I don't have any weapons or know what to do.
General: No problem, son. We use psychological weapons here. When you engage the enemy, stick out your hand like this and say "Stabbity-Stab".
(makes stabbing forward motion)
Soldier: OK
General: If there are too many of them, fall back and shoot them like this, "Bangity-Bang".
(pretend to aim and shoot a rifle)
Soldier: OK
General: If they keep coming, fall back and blast them with a grenade like this, "Boomity-Boom".
(pretend to pull a pin and toss a grenade)
Soldier: OK
General: Alright! I see the enemy approaching. Go get 'em!
(the large group of enemy slowly walks in from the side. The soldier rushes right up to them)
Soldier: Stabbity-Stab. Stabbity-Stab.
(one or two enemy soldiers fall. The rest keep coming. The soldier retreats a few steps)
Soldier: Bangity-Bang. Bangity-Bang.
(one or two enemy soldiers fall. The rest keep coming. The soldier retreats a few steps)
Soldier: Boomity-Boom
(all but one enemy soldiers fall. He keeps coming. The soldier retreats a few steps)
Soldier: (in desperation) Boomity-Boom. Bangity-Bang. Stabbity-Stab.
(the last enemy walks right over him)
Enemy: Tankety-Tank

Unless it’s a 100% proprietary chip t then many of these are used in non-military items and are scavenged/cannibalized from mundane electronics and repurposed.

Twitter responded to that video has a fascinating avatar:

- an ANTIFA flag, with a crossed-out Z.   So: that person is supposedly anti-Russian, and “anti-fascist.”

Usually, ANTIFA is pro-Communist, and many Russians are still commies, pro-Stalin, etc.

Anywho, just an observation.  Now back to the “not a war” in Ukraine.

We dump metric tons of electronics for "recycling" overseas. You can search the secondary market and find all kinds of reclaimed chips. You name it, it's dismantled and sold.

Looking at those trench lines, I'll bet if the Ukrainian's could hit just a few of them with napalm or cluster munitions, the Orc's would flee all the remaining one's before THEY got hit.

Don't believe napalm is a thing anymore, but back in the Nam days that would be the approach.

That's what is not actually happening.   We were worried at first that the Russians might be able to coordinate and have large numbers of launches.  Literally 48 in one launch point, another 60+ from another launch point, etc.   However, because of degradation of their command and communications, they can't coordinate large swarm launches.   They all come from a single launch point and never more than a dozen drones that fly in straight lines to a city target.

The problem has been mitigated, but I won't argue that it could be improved so that zero get through.

And in that theme, Ukrainians are all Nazis working for George Soros to undermine Christian Putin who is fighting the New World Order. Yes, if you didn't know it, MANY conservatives belive this hook, line and sinker. See my many posts where I exposed Tucker Carlson and his Russian advisor. There is no way these people are so adimate about defending Russia unless there is money being funneled to them.

That is exactly what these are.  Commercial dual use chips that you can find in your DVD player in many cases.  Sony commercial camera's etc.  Not military grade components.    It's one of the reasons the drones can't target moving objects, because they use commercial US GPS chips.

RPK74 to be exact. Its got a 45rd Bakelite 5.45 mag.

Does not look like a RPK74M though. No visible hinge assembly, no optics mount, or recess on stock to clear an optics mount.

Look what has happened to our whole country in the past 5-6 years! Shit, most parts of the US permanent bureaucracy have been outed as a subversive anti-American Federalism, anti-Constitution organs with half the US population openly cheering for a hard-left security state. Our Constitutional democracy is GONE. I'm surprised that arfcom still exists.

I don't think they're referring to that, but to the failures of operational Intel in theater, which I think is true. Their inability to effectively ID and neutralize high payoff targets is mostly due to struggles with collections and analysis. There are problems with synching Intel and OPs as well, but their 2 shop owns a bunch of the responsibility.

Guys let's keep it going one more night, announcement tomorrow, if someone drops 2k I'll give up my most cherished Ukraine possession, given to me years back by a hero who we saw in Mauripol video kick ass. He's dead so please don't buy it from me. An Azov police badge pre-dark sun removal  (ie before they were forced to remove it) Actually scratch that, not selling it, would be a dishonor. I can and will get guys patches and flags though who threw in the big $$$.

Thanks for the correction.   I remember Ukraine claiming about 200 tanks in the Eastern offensives with the Russian retreat and thought they got more since then. Oryx is way behind on actual numbers anyways.

Yep I’m even getting hidden threat IMs now. I should link them up with Wagner recruiters (pretty sure there’s a few around here) and let them set the world to right!

If you are receiving threats in IM's, please report them as they are not tolerated.

Its extremley sad what has happened to this place, this forum used to be a tight group of folks who supported each other even if we did not share the same views on things.  Now we get threats, called liberals, called the enemy. etc.. soros supporters, i can go on and on.  Ive been here a long time and i absolutely hate the way it is here now. Ive known alot of the guys here for awhile and shared alot of funny memories and good times... I now have the same guys trash me due to my stance on Ukraine, been called a piece of shit by the same guys, called a democrat, liberal, and I am a staunch Biden voter and shit like that... I just sit here like wtf? what the fuck is going on?? ..

I completely agree.  And I don't think it's ever going to change "back".  I joined this site 10 years ago, and I lurked on and off for a few years before that.

They are smaller forums, with very little "general discussion".  But all of the threads are about topics that interest me.  A new post won't get 10 ore more responses in an hour.  It may not get 10 responses ever.  The responses will be useful, on topic and meaningful.

Tribalism and militant-level contrarianism. Critical thinking is dead.

There was a time when the total nutcases were run out of this place pretty quickly, and the ones that were just a little kooky everyone rolled their eyes at and mostly ignored.  Now this place attracts the lunatic fringe in large numbers, and they’re protected.  This is less of a gun website and more of a den of super militant misanthropic conspiratards that think they’re “free thinkers”.  Fifteen years ago, if I saw a BFL on someone I’d probably have introduced myself. Now, I’d almost certainly steer clear.

As someone that's been here 16 years now, 1000% spot on. I took my BFLs off a while ago. The only reason I continue to come here is I've met some genuinely good people who haven't been banned yet (one was but he apparently got better ), and it's even worse out there on the rest of social media.

A post in another thread on the subject of Ukraine, deriding members' families, which used to be a CoC #6 violation, by referring to Ukraine supporters here as the "Mail Order Bride Brigade" sits hours after being reported (which is something I never had to do or felt the need to do up until the last couple years). Given we're in the middle of the day when plenty of staff should be online, I can only assume such posts from a non-team, ~300 post, one month old 2022 account is perfectly acceptable these days. Pretty sad.

An observation I had the other day... Sometimes I don't have the chance to log on here until late in the evening, after work. My personal routine on my first check of ARFCOM of the day is to run through the pages of GD topics to midnight of that day. It used to be, when going through GD to midnight, I'd have somewhere in the mid-upper 20s number of pages to browse through for the day's events. These days when doing so, it's usually low-mid teens. This place is dying off as quality members leave because of the BS or get banned for calling out said BS, while the garbage slowly takes over.

So why am I getting 2 numbers for tank losses? One figure is 1200+ the other is 2400+. Which is it?

Maybe the lower number represents destroyed tanks, and the larger number represents destroyed + UKR-captured?

Total loss to RUS = destroyed + captured/surrendered

There is basically zero chance we don't already hold the complete blueprints, and possibly have even built a few at area 51 or somewhere similar. When people are going hungry, it's easy to buy them off.
