This is a ploy to get Ukrainian forces to step across the line of demarcation and so Russia can claim Ukraine crossed the line  first

I doubt we'll see bombers turn on their transponders for wartime ops.

To help understand the "why" military action is taking place, and where it may take place, its important to understand more about Ukraine and that's why I have posted Ukrainian history and politics here. Any military conflict has economics as an influencer:

For those who ask: “Why does Ukraine matter? “

How the nation of Ukraine ranks:

1st in Europe in proven recoverable reserves of uranium ores;
2nd place in Europe and 10th place in the world in terms of titanium ore reserves;
2nd place in the world in terms of explored reserves of manganese ores (2.3 billion tons, or 12% of the world's reserves);
2nd largest iron ore reserves in the world (30 billion tons);
2nd place in Europe in terms of mercury ore reserves;
3rd place in Europe (13th place in the world) in shale gas reserves (22 trillion cubic meters)
4th in the world by the total value of natural resources;
7th place in the world in coal reserves (33.9 billion tons)

Ukraine is an agricultural country (richest soil in the world):

1st in Europe in terms of arable land area;
3rd place in the world by the area of black soil (25% of world's volume);
1st place in the world in exports of sunflower and sunflower oil;
2nd place in the world in barley production and 4th place in barley exports;
3rd largest producer and 4th largest exporter of corn in the world;
4th largest producer of potatoes in the world;
5th largest rye producer in the world;
5th place in the world in bee production (75,000 tons);
8th place in the world in wheat exports;
9th place in the world in the production of chicken eggs;
16th place in the world in cheese exports.
Ukraine can meet the food needs of 600 million people. [Russia's buddy China could use some of this...]

Ukraine is an industrialized country:

1st in Europe in ammonia production;
2-е Europe's and 4th largest natural gas pipeline system in the world (142.5 bln cubic meters of gas throughput capacity in the EU);
3rd largest in Europe and 8th largest in the world in terms of installed capacity of nuclear power plants;
3rd place in Europe and 11th in the world in terms of rail network length (21,700 km);
3rd place in the world (after the U.S. and France) in production of locators and locating equipment;
3rd largest iron exporter in the world
4th largest exporter of turbines for nuclear power plants in the world;
4th world's largest manufacturer of rocket launchers;
4th place in the world in clay exports
4th place in the world in titanium exports
8th place in the world in exports of ores and concentrates;
9th place in the world in exports of defence industry products;
10th largest steel producer in the world (32.4 million tons).

You are welcome. Unfortunately, many conservative and "pay-triotic" websites/talk show hosts are implying that Ukraine is some backward worthless country (Tucker Carlson, Zero Hedge, BeforeItsNews.com, GlobalResearch.ca, Hal Turner, Paul Joseph Watson, Power Hour radio show, etc.) as that is part of the disinformation campaign to deflect any investigation/critical thinking that Putin may be taking Ukraine for other purposes and that his fear of NATO is a smokescreen which it is.

10% for the big guy is staying out of internal affairs and staying neutral? China has a agreement with Russia. They have a much bigger hand to play in internal and external politics around the globe.

I should clarify, OVERTLY stay out of foreign internal affairs. But behind the scenes, they use cash and their economic power to influence those that can be influenced to get what they want. It's a smart move and one they're using around the world as more countries subvert to Belt & Road bs.

I wonder if Russia will start with limited incursions into the separatists areas under the cover of protecting civilians fleeing to Russia? Once he has more forces there, he could then easily create more false flags on his own forces to show Ukraine as the aggressor.

At that point, some of the countries who are expected to back Ukraine (Germany) can safely condemn them for their supposed actions.

They can then back off sanctioning Russia because they are the "victim".

I strongly feel there are several nations that would rather back Russia but they can't publicly because they are supposed to be enemies. If Russia can manipulate some pretext for invading Ukraine that gives those countries a reason to condemn Ukraine, then Russia wins.

Side note: Just gotta' say, you're the first person I've seen using that "pay-triotic" label and I find it amusing. And your list of "usual suspects," is interesting, though I'm not familiar with some of them.

I actually enjoy some of Paul Joseph Watson's sarcastic commentaries, they reflect a lot of my own opinions. But I find it difficult to take anyone who associates with Alex Jones seriously.

I think a rational person should be able to like people without having to 100% agree with all their viewpoints and opinions. But we live in a world where we are all forced (mainly through peer/political pressure) to be all in or not. I usually agree with Tucker and PJW, but on this matter, I too do not and wonder how they'll explain it away as the shit hits the fan.

Again, I hope I'm wrong for the sake of the Ukrainian people.

I agree but you got to remember, a significant portion of people get their news from MSM (and even popular conservative media). All it takes is for them to push the narrative that Russia was attacked first and people will believe it. Logic is tossed out the window. People don't fact check anything on their own.

We have seen it happen time and time again where it is clear as day what is reported is false but that doesn't stop people from believing it unfortunately.

That's the funny thing about Soviets.  Everyone knows they're lying, and they realize this... but they still operate as if the river of bullshit flowing from their gaping maw is truthful and factual.

If the people of Russia believe it that’s all that matters. China will back Russia, Russia has zero fucks to give if US or French civilians believe it.

He spouts Russian talking points about Ukraine, I didnt say he was a mouthpiece like some of those other sites are. His so-called Russian expert is an American who worked in and for the Russian government and he is a Russian apoligist.  I dug up all the info on him and it's on this thread within the last two weeks of you want proof.

That video actually makes me feel bad for those poor people. Whether they are actually being evacuated or just being staged for propaganda...that's just messed up.

[Last Edit: KaerMorhenResident] [#47]
Putin has already got his victory.

He's going to either get concessions out of NATO or invade and then conclusively demonstrate how weak NATO really is right now when it fails to pass any meaningful sanctions.

NATO is so weak that only in the last month has it started to get serious about sending ATGMs into Ukraine in number, because up to about a month ago it was a slow trickle. Only one, ONE! NATO nation has provided MANPADS in the form of Stingers to Ukraine and that is the Baltic state of Lithuania (very nice of them since they probably couldn't afford to give them away as they'll likely need them).   How many Stingers has the USA sent to Ukraine, zero.  Why? Because we don't want to provoke the Russians too much, because we're weak and we know it.

We simply don't have the military forces in Europe to effectively counter the Russians and halt any advance into the Eastern NATO member states.  We may not have enough in our military at this point to retake those areas once they are captured either.  We would waste some of our best active duty troops as essentially blood sacrifices early on in any Russian invasion.  We'd end up having to draft young men, and have you seen young American men in this country lately? Fat, drug addicted, mental issue, criminal records, lazy, and raised in a safe space society is what our draft pool consists of right now.

Also, we need to make a decision, is Asia important or is Europe important to the USA and our way of life?  We can't fight a two theater war unless we're willing to significantly increase defense spending and that means either more deficit spending or a making some real hard choices like cutting Social Security benefits.

I really am at a loss as to why so many here are so Gun Ho about taking an aggressive posture with Russia, with what exactly do you use to do that?  A few thousand troops? 4 F-16s from Denmark?   I have said and I continue to maintain that we should have sat this one out and left the Ukraine to its own fate while using this as wake-up call to get NATO's ass in gear, because we literally can't do this ourselves right now, we need NATO to step up and the only way they'll do that is if they are scared shitless. The invasion of the Ukraine by Russia may ironically be the best thing right now to strengthen NATO.  However, it's not a for sure thing that NATO will be strengthened they may just roll over and show their belly even more to the Russians leaving us to hold the line by ourselves.

We're in a Roman Empire situation. We have barbarians on our borders (China, Russia, ongoing GWOT)  and we're spread thin as our society becomes increasingly decadent and soft.  Some hard choices need to be made, everybody wants to be an Empire until it's time to do Empire shit.

I don't watch Tucker because we don't pay for cable, but I'm going to make a guess that you're talking about Clint Ehrlich.  I'm not sure if he's on a payroll, or is just naive, but yeah, he's definitely a Russian apologist.
