Anyone with reasonable intelligence would know that a pit maneuver at those speeds would be extremely dangerous...the trooper had real courage to do the maneuver at that speed..  Glad he lived through it.

Cops killed the guy for running a stop sign.  Their incompetence led them to think they could PIT a vehicle (a pickup with a high center of gravity at that) at 100mph+

Like a lot of departments around the country, the pursuit should have been called off for such a minor traffic violation.  They have the plate number, a description of the truck and the driver.  They can find him in a couple of hours and talk to him then.

It was lethal force. Justified lethal force to stop an immediate threat to the public. Of all the possible terrible outcomes, the cop managed to force the least terrible one to occur. Risky but it worked out in this case.

Why? The fucking asshole was running 110 miles per hour into oncoming traffic. That's a deadly threat to innocent bystanders. The officer attempted a PIT to neutralize the threat.

ASP is one of the few agencies around that does not give a fuck about getting in a pursuit. They don't call them off. State law almost guarantees that the agency won't get sued, unlike cities and counties.

He killed himself.   Ran from the cops and was swerving into oncoming traffic.  I'm sure there are plenty of felonies in that mess.

I would think (even if he had been on the job 3-4 minutes) that he would understand doing a PIT on a high CG truck at (probably) over 100 MPH would be pretty fucking stupid.  Not to mention the fact that there is no way he could have seen from the drivers seat if there was any oncoming traffic.  Again, I'm not a cop but I damn sure wouldn't try to spin someone at those speeds, especially for running a goddam stop sign.  The Supervisor cant see shit from his desk.  The Trooper had all of the information necessary at his disposal to use a bit of judgement.  He failed.  Glad he's OK and glad no innocents were killed.

And what?  He's been on the job 3-4 years and he's going to tell his supervisor, who presumably has a lot more experience, "no, I won't do it?"

If a driver's reckless driving threatens the life of other people when police are trying to pull you over---or due to your reckless driving you cause death, property damage, or injury---
because you initiate a high-speed chase; then fuck 'em.   The driver gets what he/she deserves.  Driver should also get attempted felonious assault/murder charges on everyone
that they almsot kill/endanger.  Fuckheads playing "Dukes of Hazzard" in a 3000lb vehicle going 60+ mph, driving recklessly just trying to avoid capture or a ticket belong under a fucking jail for a long goddamned time.
Especially if they endanger other lives/kill/injure or maim people in the process.

The reporter says the pursuit lasted at least 17 minutes and involved multiple counties.  Why wasn't he PITted 10-15 minutes beforehand?  That would have been far less risky to the public.

What did the trooper do wrong in executing the PIT?  It looks to me like he pulled up too far and contacted the rear or rear side of the tire which lifted the corner of his patrol car into the air.

Newflash, they don't call off pursuits for the safety of the dude running from the cops.

If they had managed to get a bystander killed you may have an argument that the family of the dead bystander should sue, but they didn't do that.

Fuck that.

They guy was killed because his actions lead to law enforcement determining that deadly force was justified(as, at least in Wisconsin, a high speed PIT is considered deadly force).

You're splitting hairs here and it's quite pathetic.  The fact that anyone smart enough to figure out how to turn a computer on would have an issue with this technique being used on some fucking scumbag deliberately driving into oncoming traffic at 100+mph outside of the risk to bystanders and law enforcement absolutely blows my mind.
