wait, I thought the whole point of PUTS was I got to buy shares at the price I said, no matter what the price is doing. So if I sell a 2.50 put on SENS and the price goes to 3.25, I still get to pay only 2.50. but where the risk is becomes if the price is 2 at the time, then I'm still paying 2.50. Am I backasswords?

View Quote It depends on if you are buying or selling puts. I just wasn't sure on how they executed 100% since I know with calls you have to choose to execute. |

Nievo and Stevie.
I think you're getting confused on BUYING vs. SELLING of the puts. You understand the premise, but are mixing the two transactions and it's confusing you. I did the same thing, understood the basics but always used the wrong wording (buying or selling of). page 901 has the selling basics of calls and puts in a few videos. to look at the BUYING of those options and how the transaction plays out, Jake Broe also has videos of that. |

View Quote I've got it figured out now. I was just confused as to whether or not execution of the put was automatic or if it had to be executed by me. Thanks to everyone here for all the great knowledge. Wish I would have gotten into it more earlier with some of these stocks. |

Sold a bunch of junk today and picked up 2000 WISH @ 6.30. We'll see if that does any better. Stats show almost 50% held by institutions. I would think that's a good sign. But what the hell do I know?
ETA: WISH @ 6.25 now, SOP. |

I think I want to pick up a bunch more, too. A quick buy and flip would be what I'd do, 9/3 Calls with a $6.50 strike would be an easy .40 a share. |

If I do the same thing, that will net me a total of $1,400.00 on September 3rd if the stock price goes to $6.50 and they sell. of course if it doesn't hit $6.50 per share I'm only netting $800.00 and keeping the shares. Hmmmm, decisions decisions. Just thinking out loud here. |

Only green today is SENS out of 31 stock positions. I really need to condense my total positions to like 20 or less, ignoring options.

View Quote You sold the option of selling SENS for $3/share to you. The person who bought that option, paid you $15 for the option to force you to buy the shares at $3 IF the current price is below $3. So if it falls to $2.5 you're going to have to buy those shares at $3 each. |

Tracking those in addition to my portfolio becomes daunting after awhile. If I were retired or had the time, it'd be more manageable. An 85yo dad, a highly emotional tween daughter, and the cutest but craziest soon to be 2yo little beauty keep my hands full. Got bit by the biotech bug a month or two ago and my position count ballooned. Went from using no margin to almost maxing it out to having a nice buffer once I sold my DFS. I should've been buying more MVIS and SENS this whole time. Got a bad feeling about next month so trying to ready some cash (hope I'm wrong!) for dips. I'm not ditching any current positions barring some grave news (like what happened with SESN). Once I start selling these biotechs, going to scale back that sector (except for SENS!). Too damn volatile. Also have various other positions to trim over time and then I'll be in good shape. |
