First gen Nissan Xterras. Loved my 04. "Every thing you need and nothing you don't" was the slogan. Simple dash and controls. No bullshit. Plenty of power for the woods, too.

I think these are still made and sold outside of the US, but in the ideal configuration: 5 speed manual 4WD with a deisel power plant. "Paladin" is what they call them if my info is correct.

If these came with tip out vent windows and manual windows, they'd be more perfecter than Glock is.

Its about to be 2023, the vehicle industry looks like utter crap. Covid exposed how fragile and stupid car makers can be when relying on China for everything. Electrification is a pipe dream and by the end of '24 people are clamoring for gas vehicles. The recession hits but eventually gets better. The industry finally gets their heads out of the clouds to make decent vehicles once again.

For example in the SUV space,
I think Suzuki should bring over the Jimny from global markets and sell it under Toyota dealerships as a barebones offroader to undercut everyone in the Jeep/Bronco space.

I could also see Honda take the current Passport and make an Element variant to differentiate it from the Pilot. More rugged looks, less plastic cladding, and increasing the ground clearance slightly while maximizing utility inside/out.

As for cars,
Mazda stretches the MX5, throws in a sports derived I6 that they've been developing, and makes it a coupe dedicated to great driving.

I just did a lap of the salton sea yesterday, and just got back from a lap on 243 in South CA in a 22 Mx5.

It does need a bit more power, wider tires, a proper alignment, a tune to fix the throttle response, and a bit stiffer springs.

Other than that, good lord these are fucking fun!

My 7th Mx5, 2nd ND2, 5 NA’s.

Main thing you don’t wanna fuck with the weight on these.

Salton Sea.

Suzuki kei car with a Hayabusa motor.  No reverse, no HVAC, no electric anything but the starter and required lights.

No extended warranty either, just a traffic attorney on retainer as an available option.

68-72 GM A body. Make it retro as Hell like Dodge did with the Challenger. I know Olds and Pontiac are gone but I’d love to see a 442 or a GTO that had the lines of a 1970 ram air car. Buick and Chevy still around so maybe a Grand Sport or a Chevelle.

Ford crown Victoria. Reliable old beast.  I had a town car and a crown Vic and both were fantastic vehicles with great room.  Epa had a major stake in killing large cars and having them replaced with suvs that get even worse mileage.

Toyota needs to apply the 1st Gen 4Runner design to the Tacoma.  Maybe bob the rear end a bit and they would be competetive in the Jeep market.

Subaru Cross Trek WRX version with factory lift and 235s would be fun as hell.  The aftermarket has proven this concept.
