I haven't finished the first episode, but so far it is a combination of badly-done artwork, ecchi (but not quite hentai) panty and boob shots, somewhat juvenile parody of the magical girls genre, annoying pokemon-derivative small flying omniscient devil's companion character, etc. It's not going on my "do not miss this" list, undecided on whether or not it will stay in my watchlist. |

So it’s a brand new anime.
I could have sworn there was a past anime with a very similar premise. |

Thinking about it a bit more, I think there was a past series where a girl somehow ended up being an arch nemesis of magic girls, even though she had no interest in being evil. Something along the lines of suddenly getting powers and a costume transformation, then the magical girls seeing her and assuming that she was a superpowered villain that they had to hunt down and destroy. |

The MC of My Instant Death Ability is Overpowered is kind of a dick.
But so is pretty much everyone else in this isekai parody of an isekai. So, it's kind of OK when he kills people, dragons, and whatever else with his ability. They deserved it, after all. He's not the only one who can kill at a whim - but at least his victims had it coming. Not so much for some of the other killing that we've seen so far in ep. 1. The comedy comes at the viewer at a breakneck pace - so much so that a lot of it isn't really funny - but at least some of it is. The MC's bored/sleepy act is mostly unfunny, and I have a feeling that I will get so tired of it soon that I'll just stop watching it. But I'll at least stick around for ep. 2 in a week. |

Just finished “Sasaki to Pii-chan”, quite an interesting show.
Rather interesting twist on the Iseakai routine with a guy that gets a bird as a pet only to find it’s an isekaie’d magician from another world that grants him part of his powers, and an ability to teleport to the other dimension. Starts out similar to “saving 80,000 gold in the different world”, but soon takes an unusual turn. Hey, we’ve already had an isekai vending machine and pig, might as well get a bird in there. |

View Quote I prefer the Japanese name of the show to the English bastardization: "Sasaki and Peeps". It was a good first episode - plenty of room for things to get interesting. Sasaki-san seems to be remarkably accepting of, well, everything that has come his way. Maybe that's just the way it is for someone with a salaryman's outlook on life - but he does seem to be enjoying his newly-acquired abilities and the perks of his new position. He does seem to be remarkably incurious about the next-door neighbor girl - not that he should be a perv or something, but not introducing himself, not getting her name, not even wondering about why she's interested in him, etc. Something tells me that she's not what she seems to be at first glance... |

I like it so far, and actually like his laid-back attitude. Playing video games until the girl calmed down enough to talk rationally was totally a boss move. I also like some of the foreshadowing and plot twists you guys are discussing. Click To View Spoiler Not only did they show flashbacks of the MC already having his power when he was younger (and being locked up in some sort of facility), they also mentioned that some of the students had already been isekai’d before, and were actually S rank heroes. I wonder how many more students will have similar experiences in their backstories? It seems like kidnapping buss loads of school kids and granting them superpowers was a pretty common activity for the kidnapper lady and her evil organization, so how many has this already happened to before? I can't help but wonder, are they trying to create an army of heroes or supervillains? Looks like fun to me! |

I think solo leveling will come out today.
Korean based series tend to do badly (mostly because they pour a lot of money into a flashy adaptation but the source material is straight garbage that doesn't cross cultural lines well like Japanese stuff does). The first part of the series isn't too bad so it might be alright, but it's a far cry from ever being anything other than a spectacle with flashy art. Following up to God of High School (which is and was just incomprehensible schlock) and Tower of God (which at least is sort of interesting in how arcane it is, but as a series is a meandering mess) this should be the strongest of recent Korean imports. But it's still such a wish fulfillment self insert fantasy that it makes seasonal isekai main characters look well developed by comparison. There's also a point in the series where the author made the Japanese characters all traitorous backstabbers who got their just desserts (followed by the mysterious and brooding main character showing up and manhandling the big bad guy) but I doubt this will get that far. That caused a lot of fuss apparently. The series itself is a fairly quick read due to the format and the art was nice. It mostly avoids that Korean pitfall of introducing twelve billion side characters and trying to give them too much importance to the plot, but does it to the detriment of lack of character development for practically everyone. There are a few characters who seem like they'll be utilized, get built up or have decent screentime, then just are never used. It is almost sort of funny and novel for a while, too, and it is better than most Korean comics (whether we want to call it manwha, web toons, or whatever). But near the end it really does lose the plot, although the American national hero is actually a total bro, although he never really takes the stage until nearer to the end. It is hard to enjoy the typical Korean mentality that infests this sort of media where the mantra is you have what you are born with and never can get past that. That's practically a hard and fast rule in the series, and actually is the case, other than for the MC. It makes any sort of overarching message totally whiff, although I'm not sure this series ever intended or needed a meaning, it's just an excuse to draw cool flashy digital art of the MC looking brooding and menacing in the shadows (even though he's a perfectly nice guy of course) |

She did have small parts in big series or significant parts in smaller series, but most of the characters might as well be "background literally whomst #11". I did check out the dub of Dress up Darling since she voiced Marin. That was her first big lead. She was very good. I don't know why she didn't get bigger roles sooner. |

ETA: I just realized a couple of those are actually her sister Natalie. Even if they don't, Monica Rial often gets cast as a character with just as much or more lines. Monica "Nails on a Chalkboard" Rial being cast as a major character is ALWAYS an auto-pass on the dub for me. EASILY the most egregious casting was for Vermeil in Gold. I mean seriously, who heard that screeching voice and thought "wow, that is exactly what we're looking for to voice the titular voluptuous MILFy succubus"? Thankfully, I had already watched the sub before I even learned about it. https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/258158/IMG_4786_jpeg-3083880.JPG I’m happy for those of you that can tolerate her. For me though, hearing her voice makes my skin crawl and as such I will never, under any circumstances, watch a dub where she voices a major character. I still have PTSD from when I clicked on a Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out clip on YouTube that was NOT labeled “dub” and my ears were immediately assaulted by that screeching voice. |

Pretty sure it's the only time she wasn't screeching |

I did check out the dub of Dress up Darling since she voiced Marin. That was her first big lead. She was very good. I don't know why she didn't get bigger roles sooner. Yeah music is where I first ran across her as well. She did Zero in Grimoire of Zero, also a good performance. I think this last year she really leaned into the vtuber thing, so not a whole lot of new stuff. |
