Quoted: So I've been wondering about this. American's love of the Steyr AUG is evident in sales. Why do so many choose the AUG over the AR? I can certainly answer this question for myself, but I cannot speak for others. For me, it's a simple matter of the superior reliability and parts durability, especially in adverse conditions over an AR. The AR is designed to have parts that are easily replaceable. The AUG is designed so that parts simply do not break. They can last significantly higher round counts than the AR before parts start breaking. You can shoot an AUG over the course of your lifetime without needing to replace anything. What about you? It's it because you know the AUG is simply a cooler/superior platform? Soon enough, will the AUG be the new "America's rifle?" ![]() View Quote What are you talking about?? ![]() |

Almost everyone i know has an AR15 or wants one. I know literally zero people with an AUG.
I think your math is off OP. |

As I read through OP's replies....it's pretty obvious that HE likes AUG's better than AR's. Trying to say Americans like them more, and buy them more than AR's is comical....

Uhh what? I guarantee you ARs outnumber AUGs at least 500 to 1

And there are over 10,000,000 AUGs in private hands in this country? ![]() And, please, regale us with tales of that fabulous trigger. My kids' Nerf guns have better triggers. lol to the OP.

I have one just because I didn't have one before I bought the one I have. I have many, many AR type rifles. It's a fine weapon but it was bought just to round out the collection.

I've had two Augs and while I enjoyed their novelty...sold them along with my HKs,Galils,FALs,M1As,Mini14, and Valmets I miss having an M-76 Valmet but not enough to replace it. AR platform is the best in the world... |

I had one they’re great, but when I needed to free up some cash it went …. And I’d never be without an AR willingly
Of the peolpe that do have them I’d bet very few of the choose it OVER an AR, I’m sure the majority of AUG owners bought an AR first and would sell the AUG before their go-to AR |
|
If the Geissele trigger hadn't dried up on the vine the AUG would have gained quite a bit of popularity, it's crappy trigger is the biggest thing holding it back.

I would have been awfully tempted to have chosen the AUG before the AR benefitted from all the improvements that came of the GWOT and the end of the federal AWB.

I own an Aug. An original imported Steyr Aug with permanently attached optic. I also own AR15s/M16s.
I confess I have never had a failure to feed or extract with the Aug. I also haven't put that many rounds downrange with it. IMO both are excellent platforms for anyone to own. At ranges I rarely see other Augs so not sure where OPs numbers come from. |
