I use "^r" to stop transmitting and clear the buffer.

^r is a basic fldigi function, most of the modes except HELL you interface with very similarly. On page 2 I discuss macros and other fldigi stuff.

Cool. Thanks for the info.
I didnt make it past page 1 of this thread, as the first page had enough info to soak in and the whole digital process is new. Just glad I was able to check in on the first try. I am using a Yaesu 891 while my Kenwood base station is being repaired. So, this menu process is a lot different than my inherited 1984 Kenwood :-) |

I should be around to NC this evening.

Wow the band really opened up from when I typed up my check in, until I sent it. NC went from -6 to +5

I only heard your start tones on check in and you were ghost print. When it was your turn I had solid copy. We ended up having a better than expected net tonight, propagation was vastly better than the previous 3 weeks. Five stations + NC tonight, multiple stations at S9 or better and everyone was 100% copy. |

I did increase power a bit for the check in. The terminator was just passing over me when I checked so I that probably had an effect.
Not bad considering my vertical antenna got yanked out of the tree a couple weeks ago. I was still able to run a winlink session with most of it piled up in the yard! |

I just updated my HRD software today & I'm still working on DM780. That was only about 20W, I forgot to turn my amp on. I would stay on net but have to run out for a few.
Take care, HS |

Hmmmm. I must have messed up my settings. Lol

Just looked at the log, sorry I wasn't there when called, was supposed to be in/out.

Nice net, conditions were a little rougher but by no means bad. Everyone was 100% and many were near S9 here,
but I noticed the signal strengths were bouncing around a bit. 7 stations + NC tonight. |

We will need a volunteer NC this week and next as I'll be tied up with work stuff during the net times, or it can be a free-for-all.

I'll call the net tonight. I'll be remote while sending net warnings and won't make it to the shack until 15min prior to net.

Just for grins I set up my brand new aluminum rain gutters as an antenna tonight.
I just sent a test message. I guess it got out. I worked England, Argentina, Brazil, Japan and New Zealand on it with FT8 today. Never tried this before. ETA: I'm getting really heavy bleed-over from a Mexican station just up the band. |

Here's a pic of how I hooked up to my gutter for tonight's net. I used the hybrid unit ( supposedly a 5:1 UNUN) from my Chameleon MPAS 2.0 portable antenna on the ground stake in the ground by a downspout. Then just made a jumper wire with a ring lug for the hybrid end and an alligator clip to clip on the gutter (I really didn't think it was going to work). Hooked up the single 25' counterpoise used by the Chameleon antenna. Ran the coax over to my shack window feedthru and in to the radio. It's under 2.0:1 on 40m - 6m. I haven't tried 80m yet. I'm only running 50 watts as the Chameleon hybrid unit gets hot at 100 w.
I tried it this afternoon on FT8 and got England on 15m on the first call. Switched to 10m and worked Argentine, Brazil, Japan and New Zealand. So I guess it works kinda better than I thought. That's when I decided to try it for tonight's net. And yeah, piccolo's comments on gutter antennas kinda got the blood stirring. Attached File |

8-1/2 check ins + NCS, one station sent a bunch of test messages but they started fading and I never heard them actually check in. Last one got in after I signed off but hadn't left yet.
I can't commit to NCS next week. I'll be in a motel and I get paranoid running the station that much remote. Worried FLDIGI will hang and I can't stop the TX over VNC. |

I'll have to try the gutter thing sometime. The gutter is about 4ft way from me but the flower bet is muddy and I'll have to get out a tuner and set it up in the dark. I'll wait for the DST and warm dry weather.
'd be more inclined to use the radio in the CUCV one week, I've done that in the past and it's good to make sure everything is working still. |

I'm having some kind of RF feedback problem with the rig. Everytime I transmit it locks up the USB connection to the rig and freezes. Will have to troubleshoot.
Also getting strong splatter from a foreign broadcast station just above us. Not a good night for me. ETA: Managed to get my go-box backup rig up and hooked to the laptop so I could do the I/O checkin. Will troublesoot main rig tomorrow in better light. |

Nice net, conditions improved a lot from pre-net to post.
Six stations + NC tonight. Hope the gear situation gets resolved weaponeer, but I did copy you strong as usual on check in. |

My IC-7200 was hooked up to my Chameleon MPAS 2.0 portable vertical in the backyard that got rained on all day. I had no idea if it was going to work! |

Interesting that I could copy NC just fine but needed a relay from somebody in the opposite direction. Maybe a power boost? Was transmitting at 40w.

View Quote @limaxray Welcome to the net, could be your antenna orientation but who knows. The band was a bit weird, and the "A" index was up earlier 30 for example. I run 50 watts digital my self so I'd put the blame on atmospherics. 73, Rob |

When BigDaddy (also OH) was on the net regularly he'd usually be the strongest station here in AZ. It'll take a few nets to know if it's propagation or something else. |
