Sure, if everything goes right - i.e. the person with knowledge of the kludge is the only one who ever operates the equipment AND that person doesn't screw up - then plenty of the kludges are fine.  I don't understand the need to berate someone for pointing out "If anything doesn't go perfectly with that setup then something very bad will happen".

I feel like we've adequately covered the pros and cons of dual-male cords, lack of lockouts, etc... so can we stick to the excellent information this thread has been generating? (Pun intended)

All of these models (that fit that chassis) seem to be equipped with a nearly identical 79cc gas engine. I find the minor difference in claimed performance to be highly suspect.

Fusion spray paint for plastic would be easier. White would get dirty and look bad very quickly I would think.

I read something, somewhere, that seemed to say that Quip-All was a house brand of that vendor (CPO). The Ebay listing along with Amazon and a website all show out of stock and/or discontinued, so wonder if they're changing models or something.

Can't help but notice the similarities of the Quip-All and Pulsar to a couple models branded Westinghouse, if there would be a less expensive branded version of the Westinghouse igen 2500 that would be pretty interesting.

I think you and PHATMAX have the general idea right. If you go to one of the Alibaba(or one linked) pages you can find 2000W inverters. Five or six or so different factories in China making different styled units. One factory, one style, different cc engine/wattage combinations with you picking the color and features(USB port was $5 extra). So the HF Predator and the WEN would be the same basic unit off the same factory assembly line for the given engine size/wattage combo. The Pulsar, Quip-All, Duromax, Powermate, one of the Generac models the same basic unit. The green Sportsman would be the same as the grey DirtyHands Tools and such.

To my eyes it looks like both the HF Predator and Quip-All versions copied the Yamaha 80CC engine. The Q-A's DC alternator(mounted back side of engine) looks to be identical to the Yamaha's also but the inverter box looks to be a copy of the Honda's. I don't have the HF Predator to look at, just Honda and Quip-All plus some online diagrams so take my opinion with a grain of salt. I did look at a Sportsman 2000W inverter and it was a different design altogether.

I finally finished the five hour break in on my new Champion Digital Hybrid 4000/3500.  Started easy each time.  I'm running 91 octane no ethanol fuel.  Book says it will run 10% blend just fine.....no thanks.  Changed the oil and it was surprisingly clean.  Comes with a nice little funnel, USB plug adapter and battery charging cable.  Book list NGK equivalent plug so I went ahead and orderd a few of those to have on hand.

I have to say this one is louder than I thought on full speed.  On ECO mode is much quieter of course.  I did have it sitting out behind the garage which is a block wall so that didn't help with the sound.  Thinking of building some kind of box/shelter for it or maybe running it out in the shed if need be.  Also have an hour meter on order.

For $497 shipped i'm happy.

Note: I'm using "80cc" to describe all of the 79.x CC engines.

The Westinghouse, Homelite, Paladin, and Milbank "side plug" (my term, think Yamaha style) generators are all made by ZHEJIANG EVERLAST POWER CO.,LTD.

I'm not sure the name of the original manufacturer for the Duromax / Pulsar / Quip-All / Predator / Westinghouse iGen series, but they all appear to be just about the same (80cc) except for the higher wattage models (such as iGen 2500) having a 98cc engine.

There is also a 80cc Duromax model that is 80cc but uses dual fuel (propane or gasoline).

ON the digital inverter I put a wheel kit I ordered from amazon on mine.

open box was $28 I think.  money well spent.

I'm overall impressed with the unit.

RatPatrol ran a larger champion for damn near 29 days straight so I'm hopeful for these Champion units.

A few cheats to make it easier.

1) If there is a knob and two on/off switches on the unit, the unit can be run dry by turning the fuel knob off and leaving the power switch on.

2) If there is a knob and only one on/off switch, the on/off switch is for ECO mode. These units cannot have the fuel turned off to run the carb dry without modification.

3) Electric start is rare in units under 2800 watt.

4) Pull out chokes seem to be more durable in the smaller units than sliding lever chokes.

5) If two generator have the same engine size (let's say 80cc), it is unlikely that one will be considerably more powerful than the other. Differences are either a matter of allowing the engine to be run harder or allowing the inverter to be run hotter or both.

6) Small wheels and grass don't mix

7) Some units run off of propane and gasoline. In these cases, assume 10% - 15% less power when running on propane. In other words, if the generator is advertised as being 2000 starting watts and 1600 running watts, figure 1700 - 1800 starting watts and 1360 - 1440 running watts while using propane.

8) 240 volt AC is what you need to run most serious household stuff (dryer, home air conditioners, stove, etc). Only the very high end (5kw and up) inverter generators put out 240vac. These units are very expensive, costing 3 - 10 times as much as their traditional generator equivalents.

More easy reference info:

Engine Size - Recommended Generator Wattage (max)
53cc - 1kw
80 - 100cc - 2kw
120 - 170cc - 2.5 - 3kw
171 - 220cc - 3 - 3.5kw

If you see a 53cc engine in a generator claiming to be a 2kw or higher generator, don't buy it.

You might also consider the wattage rating of these budget inverters with a little skepticism if you are comparing to something established like the Honda. The Honda EU2000i is rated at 1600W continuous, 2000W maximum for 30 minutes per the manual and seems to be capable of this. IME it will handle surges of 2200W with the red overload light coming on for 4 maybe 5 seconds, 4 seconds of red overload light on being acceptable per the manual.
The Quip-All 17/2200 seems to be at it's maximum getting up towards 1700W and a 2200W load tripped the overload circuit quick. So if trying to compare wattage  you might look at the Honda as 1600/2000W capable and something like the budget Quip-All as 1400*/1700W capable(*just a guess). Or a least this is how I am going to look at it hoping to get a decent service life. I guess something similar would apply for the other makes or sizes of the budget inverters.

That was my guess as well. I haven't removed the clamshell case yet, but have opened each access hatch to check for obvious loose nuts or bolts. Haven't found the problem child yet.

Use a probe when it is making the noise to push on various parts (like a screwdriver, or your finger if it isn’t hot and you are brave) to see if the noise quits. Sometimes parts can be loose when the fastener isn’t.

In that case, return it, don’t bother wrenching on it.

ETA: Does it do that under load?
