In an exclusive report, One America News says Moore’s accusers have ties to drug dealers and the Washington Post. The accuser, retired Alabama police officer Faye Gray, claims she was responsible for keeping an eye on Moore at the Gadsden Mall because he would make unwanted sexual advancements on young women.

OAN says its “own research revealed no truth behind the claims against Moore at the mall.”

Gray’s brother, Jimmy Wright, was arrested for distributing controlled substances in 1981. The prosecutor for the case was none other than Roy Moore.

OAN reports Moore made another enemy after ruling against convicted drug dealer Richard Hagedorn, who was brought before Judge Moore over contempt charges stemming from back payments for alimony and child support. Moore ruled against Hagedorn in 1994 and is still making alimony and child support payments.

The report then takes another turn.

Richard Hagedorn is the brother of David Hagedorn, a “longtime editor,” of the Washington Post.

Alabama's closely watched U.S. Senate race is a neck-and-neck contest as voter concerns about personal moral conduct weigh on the candidacy of Republican Roy Moore, according to a new Washington Post-Schar School poll.

With less than two weeks to go, support for Democrat Doug Jones stood at 50 percent vs. Moore's 47 percent support among likely voters - a margin of a scant three points that sets up a nail-biter for the oddly timed December 12 special election.

The Post-Schar School poll was conducted Monday to Thursday by the research firm Abt Associates among a sample of 749 likely voters and carried a 4.5-point margin of sampling error. To avoid influencing the answers of respondents with opinions about The Post's coverage of allegations against Moore, interviewers disclosed The Post's sponsorship of the survey only at the end of the interviews.

Democratic group attacks Roy Moore without disclosing donors

The second biggest spender in the Alabama Senate race looks and acts like a local operation.

But in a state where out-of-state interference is seen as poisonous by many voters, the true identity of the donors to Highway 31, which exists to support Democratic candidate Doug Jones, has been carefully shielded from Alabama voters by legally evading Federal Election Commission disclosure rules.

To date, the organization has reported spending nearly $2 million on television, digital and direct mail ads, including attacks on Republican Roy Moore for allegedly dating teenage girls and praise for Jones as a Christian believer who will uphold second amendment rights. Highway 31 is named for the road connecting Alabama's four major cities.

The group did not accept any donations before Nov. 22, when the Federal Election Commission required all independent groups working on the race to file a pre-election report disclosing donors, according to a person familiar with the operation.

The group's spending on the race began weeks earlier, on Nov. 8, according to filings. The payment of bills for that spending was delayed, according to the person, allowing for the group to delay raising money and avoid the deadline.

In a report filed Thursday, the group reported owing vendors $1,154,844.31 as of Nov. 22. The majority of debts are owed to Bully Pulpit Interactive, a liberal media firm based in Washington, D.C., and Waterfront Strategies, another Democratic media buying firm in Washington.

"We are a single-issue PAC that was formed for the sole purpose of helping Doug Jones be the next senator from Alabama," said Adam Mulendorf, a Montgomery-based political strategist, who previously worked in Washington. He is leading the effort with Edward Still, a Birmingham attorney, and declined to discuss his group's donors.

The only operation that has invested more in the race is the Jones campaign, which has spent $5.4 million on television and radio advertising since Oct 3, the first week after the primary season ended, according to another person tracking spending rates. The Moore campaign, by contrast, has only spent $895,000 during the same period.

There is a smaller, independent group supporting Moore with television ads, Proven Conservative PAC, but it took contributions before the Nov. 22 deadline, and therefore has disclosed donations. They include $100,000 from Richard Uihlein, a shipping materials entrepreneur based in Wisconsin, and $25,000 more from the Alabama company Wellborn Cabinets.

In total, Proven Conservatives has disclosed raising $246,500 this year, which includes money spent in the special election primary. It has disclosed spending more than $30,000 so far on the Dec. 12 general election to support Moore or oppose Jones.

The technique of delaying contributions to avoid public disclosure is not new. "In a lot of cases, payments might be made later on if it is customary for those particular vendors to extend credit," said Eric Wang, a Republican campaign finance attorney at Wiley Rein, who previously worked at the Federal Election Commission and is not working on the Alabama race.

Jones' campaign has benefited from a fundraising boom, as progressives around the country send checks no larger than $2,700 to his campaign in the hopes of Democrats picking up a Senate seat. But more established Democratic groups, which can raise money in larger amounts, have so far refrained from buying ads in the state, in an apparent effort to avoid further identifying Jones with the national Democratic Party.

Under the rules set out by the FEC, final contributor and expense disclosure reports for the race must be filed by Jan. 21.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says he's going to leave it up to the voters of Alabama next week to decide whether Alabama GOP candidate Roy Moore should serve in the Senate.

McConnell was initially among several national Republicans to urge Moore to drop out of the race after multiple women accused Moore of inappropriate sexual conduct decades ago, when they were as young as 14.

McConnell is now taking a slightly different position.

The Kentucky Republican tells The Associated Press that the "people of Alabama" should decide.

Moore faces Democrat Doug Jones in the Dec. 12 special election.

McConnell told ABC's "This Week" that he believed the Senate Ethics Committee would take up an investigation if Moore is elected, but that it'll be up to that panel to decide.

Roy Moore speaks at a black church, social media erupts

Charlene Cannon tried not to be offended, angry even. She was, after all, at church. It was Sunday morning and the retired Birmingham police officer was settled in her pew at the Guiding Light Church in Birmingham's Woodlawn neighborhood, eager to embrace God's calling to love and forgive and hear the Word as preached by Bishop Jim Lowe, Jr.

It was not unusual for politicians, regardless of party, to be sitting amongst the predominantly African-American congregation, particularly of late--during a political season that seems to have encompassed the entirety of 2017.

"Bishop welcomes anybody, and I appreciate that," Cannon told me later Sunday afternoon. "I've never been offended but anyone. But ..."

Suddenly, standing at the front of the church, mike in hand, was Roy Moore.

The Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate had been introduced by Lowe and offered the opportunity to address the church.

Moore, standing awkwardly next to Lowe, said he couldn't "talk about politics," adding, though, that he would "appreciate your support." He then read a Christmas-themed poem he said he wrote himself.

Cannon says many women in the congregation turned their heads away from Moore.

"I tried not to be offended; I really did," she said. "But it didn't work."

Yet even before the allegations surfaced last month, Moore was not exactly a friend to African-Americans.

Last December, he told CNN he still didn't believe President Barack Obama was an American-born citizen. And he famously said U.S. Congressman Keith Ellison, who is Muslim, should not have been allowed to serve after being elected in 2006 because he chose to be sworn in with his hand on the Koran rather than a Bible.

"Islamic law is not comparable to our law," he said.

Then just last month, while on the campaign trail, he said "new right" created in 1965 were the source of our "problems" today. You don't have to be a learned historian to know the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was enacted that year to prohibit racial discrimination in voting.

Cannon, however, is most incensed at the allegations levied at Moore by the young women, allegations he has not suitably addressed to her satisfaction.

"He has no respect for women," she said. "And dealing with these young ladies, he hasn't explained that. If there were just one or two, it's their word against his. But as many as have come out, my momma used to tell me where there's smoke there's fire, and this has been smoldering for a while.

"When you come out and run for public office, sometimes it'll catch fire."

Cannon said she "hurried" out of the church after the service ended and spoke to other members who were more than a bit troubled by Moore's presence.
When she arrived at home, Cannon posted a photo of Moore speaking at the church on Facebook and wrote: "I was enjoying service until...."

The post prompted a flurry of comments, almost all of them negative.

"Until the devil showed up."

"Keep your young daughters close."

"What pastor allows an accused sex offender to address their congregation. It's time to find another church."

By last Sunday evening, Cannon's post appears to have been deleted but not before it garnered nearly 100 comments, including from Birmingham City Councilman (District 2) Hunter Williams ("I'm so glad I didn't go. Disgusting.") and Alabama House Representative (District 58) Rolanda M. Hollis ("Me too")

But Cannon's wasn't the only Facebook post on the event,

Cara McClure created six posts referencing it. The first read simply: "Bishop Jim Lowe??? Whyyyy??? Roy Moore? Oh well."

Among the comments:

"Ratched! Absolutely ratched!"

"Maybe it would have been something else if he were there with a repentant spirit and to actually hear the word, but no....just to secure some votes from some easily fooled negroes. Disgusting."

Elsewhere in the comments, McClure added: "I'm in my car in tears because I'm so tired of our black preachers embarrassing us and allowing any ole pieces of crap ... to speak over our congregations (sic) life."

Indeed, many of the commenters were critical of Lowe, though there were also defenders:

"These fake pastors black and white (especially the so-called evangelicals) need to put Christ back into Christianity. They are all making a mockery of the gospel of Jesus Christ with their ungodly behavior and/or attitude. Shameful and Disgraceful."

"Jim Lowe and all of his followers should be ashamed. If I was in that congregation I would have got up and walked out."

Yet, one commenter pushed back: "So you want to be rude cause this man is rude and whatever else he is. Now if I had walked in and saw I would have quietly walked in. But once I'm in I came to listen to the word."

Bishop Lowe did not return my telephone message, but he did comment in McClure's post: "All are welcomed. We did not invite him to come but he came and wanted to worship with us. I will preach to anyone who is willing to listen."

At one juncture during his sermon, Lowe appeared not so much to be preaching to Moore, but his detractors. He referenced the benched judge's infamous refusal to comply with a federal court order to remove a 5,280-pound block of granite featuring the Ten Commandments, which he had placed in the rotunda of the Alabama Judicial Building, defying the law separating church from state. He was ultimately removed from the bench for judicial misconduct.

"The law said he should remove them," Bishop Lowe said. "He said, 'No, this is the word of God.' He wouldn't support same-sex marriage. The law says support it. He said, 'But the law of God is supreme.' He's on a cross. He's being crucified for that now."

Cannon recalls asking her mother about the 10 Commandments controversy, too.

"She said, 'That's a piece of stone; it's idol worshiping,'" Cannon recalled. "'The Ten Commandments should be written in your heart, not on a piece of stone.'"

A majority of Republicans voters in Alabama do not believe the sexual assault allegations against GOP candidate Roy Moore, according to a new poll released Sunday.

The CBS and YouGov poll found that 71 percent of the 1,067 people polled did not find Moore's accusers to be credible. Seventeen percent believed the allegations to be true.

More than 90 percent of those that did not find the allegations credible blamed the Democrats, while 80 percent also said that the media was to blame.
