If we apply the scientific method to our decisions. European observations would dictate we set aside a large percentage of parking in all of our landfills for electric cars.

Power outages are mostly a thing for suburban, exurban and rural people who require miles of lines that already are costing the utility tens of thousands of dollars a month. Those people are last on the list for getting their power restored after a doug fir drops on it. If you’re in a denser area like where apartments are located your lines are more likely to be buried and they are a higher priority when service is down.

I fail to understand the outrage here.

Yeah, sure, it’d be better to let “the market”, whatever that means anymore, decide how many EV parking spots an apartment complex has, but we’re talking about a liberal city (which is damn near all of them) in a liberal state (which is damn near half of them). Cities mandating silly things is old news. A developer who doesn’t like the mandate is free to go build somewhere else… half a dozen will line up to build there instead.

I might think that a lot of the people who drive EV’s are douches, but there’s no denying that the technology is maturing and represents the future. It’s not like we started using IC motor vehicles because we’d perfected oil drilling and refining and had some huge surplus of liquid fuels sitting around.

Most city dwellers honestly would be better served having EV’s than IC’s. I’m all for offering amenities to city dwellers that attract them to cities and keep them there.

It’s countywide but mostly apartments are built in the urban part. Charging stations are cheap enough in new construction that if you weren’t doing this even without a mandate, you’re wrong.

And how long will that take? The problem is being legislated on a FF track. Is the solution development progressing at a similar rate?

If I rented an apartment that had a large percentage of parking spaces marked off for handicapped or EV's.

I would either have a handicapped tag or a fake plug installed on my car so I could "plug" into the charging station.

Who looks to see if a car is charging anyway if the "plug" is connected to a car in that spot.

Too many spaces marked off for different BS.

There is no magic solution. It will take an outrageously huge amount of money to do what needs to be done if we go all electric. The technology exists.

It can. If most people aren't allowed to have cars and those that do are using smart chargers that only allow them to charge when permitted to do so.

If you fail to see the problem then you are part of it. Government should not mandate these things. I will grudgingly accept building standards for safety but this is well beyond that.

Agreed! I lived there for 22 years and 27 here in Southern Oklahoma and the power went off up there for days for alittle bit of wind.  Down here our shit stands up to winds higher! And on top of that we got tornadoes on a yearly. And our shit is better than yalls there that fails if a strong gale blows thru.  Deal with tornados and hurricanes.
