Eagle Rare is excellent.

For every day drinking IMO it's really hard to beat pretty much any of the Old Forrester offerings.

Jack is fine for mixing, though I usually get the big bottle of Bulliet from Costco for that.

I’ve been told by numerous sources that it was discontinued. Perhaps did you buy old stock? I found a shop here in Wisconsin that had old stock and bought all 17 liters. Wife found 4 liters of old stock on a shelf over the summer and scooped them all up, the store didn’t restock them.

I don’t know…between a lot of similar mash bill bourbons I would agree. But basic Jack Daniels is fairly distinctive.

Also like the Jack barrel strength rye.

Thomas H Handy, bar none.

As for JD, I don’t get the hate. Their barrel proof options are amazing, the ryes especially.

And also, how is Frey Ranch not a bourbon? They meet all the requirements with several of their offerings and their 4 grain mashbill is still >51% corn and aged 5 years. Frey Ranch is also VERY good and their uncut farm strength is prolly a top 5 for me.

Next you'll ask why not use a hose to put out a fire on someone's shoes instead of pissing on them.

Your point is received.

I am not entirely certain, however, the shoes of someone I do not like being on fire is something I would need to be involved with.

I'm not much into Bourbon but I do like scotch.

Lagavulin 16
Scapa The Orcadian
Talisker Storm
Ardbeg Blaaack
Laphroaig LORE
Oban Little Bay

There are many more I like but these are the ones I mostly drink. Any of the Distiller's Editions are also mostly good.

It appears I may have received but ultimately fumbled your point. My mind is like a steel trap, nothing gets in.

Back to the OP’s question;

There are many great suggestions here. It doesn’t have to be a $100+ dollar to equal great bourbon. Taste is, of course, subjective. Several suggestions include some very nice $30-$40 selections that are nearly on par with much more expensive options. I think that is the sweet spot personally if you are looking for something to casually enjoy alone or with friends. More expensive selections are certainly available for special occasions but I find I do not enjoy them for casual consumption as each sip makes me reflect on the cost of each sip. Special occasions, I don’t mind it nearly as much since it is attached to said occasion.

Four Roses, 1792, Old Forester, they’re okay, but I won’t seek them out. If someone offers me one, I’m not going to pass though.

Buffalo Trace is way overrated. I don’t consider Makers Mark worthy of anything other than a mixed drink.

Basil Hayden is too smooth. I drank more of it than I should’ve because of that!

Elijah Craig is decent. Knob Creek too. There’s one my brother had gotten, it was good. Don’t remember the name, I’ll have to google for a bit. ETA: Bib and Tucker!

But I’m really enjoying Bardstown right now. Really quite nice and a better price than Woodford.

Generally Woodford reserve.

I was doing some smoking and needed a cheap whiskey to soak thwe wood in.  I went t the Grocery store and bought their cheapest bottle I could find. $10.99
Kentucky Tavern Whiskey.  Turns out it is pretty good.  At least as good as any $ 30 bottle on the shelf.

The grocery store also had a box set of Woodford Reserve with one of the glasses for $29.99    cheaper then their normal price for the same size bottle of Woodford Reserve.

Jack IS bourbon. It was originally classified as such, but the argument was made that the charcoal filtration (the Lincoln County process) was enough to call it something else. It's bourbon with an extra step.

I have chased the allocated stuff and overpaid on some while finding others at retail but my two favorite every day bourbons are Old Forrester 1920 and Heaven Hill BIB. That being said, I do have a bottle of Russell's Reserve 15 I am waiting to crack at the end of the month I am kind of excited about. EH Taylor Barrell Proof and Stagg are probably my favorites of the popular allocated bourbons.
