ELT: Likely not activated until impact with water. If it does work, the signal is quickly attenuated by the water so it is possible there was little or no chance that a signal would have been picked up. ELTs may not be waterproof and could quick working at some point after entering the water. Signal attenuation is the primary reason for no signal if the ELT was activated.
34x knot airspeed. Probably explained by trading airspeed for rate of climb. Also do these aircraft have a maneuvering speed for severe turbulence conditions? You don't mess with thunderstorms. |

Java Sea info
"Even though not much is known about Java Sea in terms of tourism, it is in fact a large sea, made of shallow waters. The average depth of water in this sea is 151 feet that runs across its entire sprawl. It covers a large area of about 320,000 square kilometers on the Sunda shelf." You could dive down to any wreckage. |

Here is one example of why you don't tempt fate flying through thunderstorms
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_Airways_Flight_242 "Southern Airways Flight 242 was a DC-9-31 jet, registered N1335U, that executed a forced landing on a highway in New Hope, Paulding County, Georgia, United States after suffering hail damage and losing thrust on both engines in a severe thunderstorm on April 4, 1977." |

Aircraft upset and poor piloting skills to right it. |

I have flown Qantas between LAX and SYD (flight approx 15 hrs) and SYD and HKG (approx 9 hours - these flights long haul enough for you?) numerous times. It is one of the best airlines in the world and its pilots are top notch professionals. Anyone running down Qantas is doing so out of ignorance. US airlines are a sad joke. Trying to save a little money vs Cathay I just flew from Narita to EWR on United. I'll spare you a rant and simply say 'never again'. United isn't even close to being in the same league as Cathay, Qantas, or several other int'l carriers. It's an embarrassment. ETA: and don't even get me started on EWR. I've seen cleaner and more efficient airports in the third world. What a first impression for foreigners arriving in the US. It's a disgrace. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Compare how many aircraft qatas has with our SMALLEST airline and their flight schedule. Then get back to me. Sure, a little company-relatively speaking- will have a smaller accident incident, but if you're good at math, which yo me, it doesn't seem like you are, the numbers speak for themselves. USA! USA! Dude...Qantas is the 2nd oldest airline in the world and flies a ton of long haul, including the longest route in the world. It's a major airline, not an airline that specialises in short domestic trips. Seriously, lay off the weed. You are making an ass of yourself. I've made that trans Pacific flight on Qantas many times. In fact I usually book Qantas when going to Australia, even if it costs a bit more. Gotta love the CNN mouthbreathers saying that absolutely Air Asia and MH370 are not connected and just a terrible coincidence.
Little early for that statement? How about you find the plane first before jumping to that conclusion. When this plane isn't found, I'm calling fuckery between the two incidents. Two planes of this size vanishing, doesn't just happen in the same year twice and are "never found" |
