Even with their original plans for the site, 1.5 miles away? Fuck that, too close, even if it was just small rockets for orbital launches. It was federal, state, and local approval and required new legislation in Texas. SpaceX had been considering it since 2011 and selected it in 2014. Starship (BFR) was not publicly announced until 2017. In 2019, the FAA completed a reevaluation of the SpaceX facilities in South Texas, and in particular the revised plans away from a commercial spaceport to more of a spaceship yard for building and testing rockets at the facility, as well as flying different rocketsStarship and Super Heavyfrom the site than the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy envisioned in the original 2014 environmental assessment.[34] In May and August 2019, the FAA issued a written report with a decision that a new supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) would not be required.[35][36] |

But that is really beside the point since this is a private company (not the gov) that got approval to set up camp doing dangerous stuff close to a small community and 1.5 miles was danger close to begin with. The article cites having to comply with FAA regulations and public safety rules? These aren't new rules and regs, they are just further along in the process now to where these things will impact them. Like I said, there is plenty of land not being used on CCAFS. You know, where rockets are launched from already. I think there is more to this than the article provides. And even at 3x's appraisal value offered as non negotiable, they are still being forced out. How's about Elon fuck off to somewhere else or go buy them a community like they already have or should I say had. |
