It's a scope mount.
Here is a post on the aluminum version of the CASM.

that's pretty! the Lockbar sights are interesting to me, I didn't know they were ever on M1As. I need a set for my Garand since I love the look.

Just picked up a used USGI stock at the gun show today, came with butt plate and everything for $55. I originally had this M1A Standard in a Troy chassis, but I think my expectations were too high that dropping a M1A standard into a chassis would somehow turn it into an MOA or better shooter... After that I figured best to put her back how the Lord intended it to be and scored the aforementioned wood stock. I liked this one because it had what looks like a rack marking and just had good character, really changes the look and feel over that plastic one it came with.

I think now I'll just appreciate it for what it is, a beautiful, heavy battle rifle that hits hard.

As a bonus there's a blurry pic with my 1903A4 clone. Took the pics on one of those paratrooper cases you can find on surplus sites sometimes. Love mine, really fits with either rifle!

Thank you.  I rubbed the stock with linseed oil every day for a week.

been working on this for a couple of days.

[Last Edit: masakari] [#24]
I changed my optics setup to a TA45 with GDI RCO mount. This is the longest eye relief ACOG available (I think) and with the RCO mount, it is just barely close enough to work, and it does seem to work well. Mine is the -6 version with the 6 MOA dot, which seems overly large. If I decide that I like everything else about the setup, I will be sending it back to Trijicon to be re-reticled with a triangle.
The iron sights work through the hole in the ACOG, but it would be best with standard sized rear and front sights. That is my next planned change.

Very innovative, but how does 3.6 inches of eye relief work for you with the optic that far forward?

I have always found that Trijicon's estimates are just that... estimates. It seems to work fairly well. I could be farther away and the optic would still work, but my FOV inside the optic would shrink too much for my taste. Right now, I can see MOST of the inside FOV just fine, so I think its good to go. I will try and post pics of the sight picture when I have a chance.

And here's my sight picture:

I just ordered a scout front sight and standard rear sight to better utilize them through the opening under the ACOG.

86 is correct.

The rifle is a M1A Loaded 22" and also has the Sadlak picatinny scope base.

The RAZOR 5-20 EBR2-MRAD just became a wedding gift to a friend of mine and it will be getting a Vortex VIPER 6-24x50 FFP with the XLR reticle.

Eventually the rifle is going to get some parts replaced for when I get the YHM 762 M1A suppressor mount installed so I can tune the gas system for suppressed use.

I think this question was for me.  TPS MIL-STD 1913 SCOPE RINGS  The mount is dove-tailed into the receiver which is the main attraction of the M25.  Sorry if you already knew this.

Aaaaaah!  I didn't know of that option.  Nice.  That would make for a stable mounting.
